Dear Colleagues,

We want to highlight the two weeks left for abstract submission and invite you to consider submitting an abstract for the AGU Fall Meeting 2024 (December 9-13).

Session Title: Interdisciplinary studies on pre-earthquake processes. Towards advancing with models, observations, and AI-enhanced methods (NH28)

Session Abstract: This session presents the latest results of cross-disciplinary studies from space and ground observations of pre-earthquake processes advanced with the latest models and technology. Various physical observables, ranging from ground-related deformation patterns (GPS, SAR, etc.) to pre-earthquake changes, such as geochemical, electromagnetic, hydrogeological, thermodynamic, and others, have been observed related to stress variations in the lithosphere before strong earthquakes. New technologies like advanced machine learning (ML) of big data (BD) and artificial intelligence (AI), together with signal processing tools that emerged in the past decade, have brought a wave of intensified studies of earthquake forecasting and nowcasting. These methods also allow the exploration of physical earthquake precursors and call for advanced computing architectures and data management plans. In this session, we welcome contributions, including but not limited to observations, modeling, and analyses of pre-earthquake signals; ML/AI-enhanced methods; cross-disciplinary studies of earthquake forecasting/nowcasting; and new technologies for capturing the precursor signals.
