A magnitude 7.4 earthquake has occurred near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia, this event is thought to be an aftershock to the July 29th 2025 magnitude 8.8 event.

To support classroom engagement around this event, we’ve developed a new Teachable Moment presentation that provides background information, scientific context, and data visualizations to help your students explore the geophysical processes involved.

Thank you for helping your students connect science to the world around them. If you have any questions or feedback, we’d love to hear from you!

Please feel free to share this resource with colleagues who might find it useful.
