Postdoctoral Positions: DAS & Edge Processing for Seismology

Are you passionate about turning cutting-edge seismic data into
real-time insight? The Rice Environmental & Applied Geophysics Lab
(REAGL) is seeking 1-2 outstanding postdoctoral researchers to
investigate novel edge-based processing algorithms for seismic event
characterization using large distributed acoustic sensing (DAS)
arrays. Components of the project include small explosion
detection/location, geothermal reservoir monitoring, and environmental
sensing. We seek recent graduates with expertise in microseismic and
regional seismic processing methods as well as extensive comfort and
familiarity with modern Python and software engineering approaches.
Experience (and definitely interest) in DAS acquisition and analysis
would be beneficial. Opportunities exist to prototype algorithms on
existing regional dark fiber datasets as well as to participate in
upcoming experiments in SW New Mexico, Coastal California, and East
Texas.

The position is based out of Rice's Earth, Environmental, and
Planetary Sciences Department (EEPS, Earth Science, Rice University)
and is one year with the possibility of renewal, start date May 2026
(or earlier). If you are interested in applying for this position,
please contact Prof. Jonathan Ajo-Franklin (ja...@rice.edu) and cc Dr.
Yuanyuan Ma (ym...@rice.edu) and include your CV, a paper you are proud
of, a short statement of research interest, and a list of three
references. A Ph.D. in a relevant field is required by the date of
hire; postdoctoral appointments are annual with the possibility of
renewal, contingent upon performance and funding.

BTW If you are at Fall AGU 2025, please shoot us an e-mail to connect in person

Best - Jonathan
