The Institute of Earth Sciences (ISTerre) is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher for an 18-month position focused on active seismic tomography (VSP) using Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) data.

This position is part of a collaboration with the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) and Andra, in the context of the Cigéo deep geological disposal project for radioactive waste. The successful candidate will work on the characterisation and monitoring of the Excavation Damaged Zone (EDZ) around a large-diameter gallery at the Andra Underground Research Laboratory in Bure, France.

📌 Key Responsibilities:
• Develop a 4D seismic imaging and monitoring methodology using DAS
• Produce multi-attribute tomographic models of the EDZ
• Acquire and process new seismic datasets
• Develop transferable processing tools for the broader geophysical community
• Publish methodological and scientific findings

🎓 Required Profile:
• PhD in geophysics, seismology, or a related field
• Strong expertise in signal processing and seismic imaging
• Proficiency in scientific programming (Python, MATLAB, or equivalent)
• Solid experience with inversion methods and first-arrival seismic tomography
• Demonstrated ability to write scientific publications in English

✅ Assets include experience with DAS, Coda Wave Interferometry, VSP data processing, or a background in geomechanics.

📍 Location: ISTerre, Université Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble, France – with visit periods in Copenhagen at GEUS
📅 Expected Start: June 2026
⏳ Application Deadline: 30 April 2026, 1:00 PM CET

To apply, please send a single PDF including your CV, a cover letter, and contact details of one referee to:
📧 Aurélien Mordret – au...@geus.dk
📧 Philippe Guéguen – philippe...@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr

We strongly encourage applications from women and members of underrepresented groups. Appointment will be based on merit alone.
