Hi,

All are invited to attend the following webinar, hosted by the AGU Geodesy section:

Webinar title:  The world needs more geodesists: Growing and broadening the geodesy workforce
Scope:  Geodesy underpins fundamental science of the shape and gravity of the Earth and planets and their time variations with numerous applications where precise positioning is needed: satellites, autonomous navigation, precision agriculture, smart phones, shipping, aviation, natural hazards, military, etc. Within the USA and selected other countries, we are hearing reports that employers cannot find adequately trained students in geodesy.  Some have even called it a crisis.  During this webinar, we will have 5 speakers discuss the skills needed for  a geodetically trained workforce, the current state of the workforce, and creative solutions to attracting a 21st century workforce for geodesy.  Approaches include, but are not limited to: focus on K-12 education, internship programs, cross-institutional online graduate training courses, and recruiting majors and/or experienced workers from other STEM fields to geodesy.
Speakers:
Nikki Markiel, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
John Galetzka and Rick Bennett, National Geodetic Survey
Jeremy Maurer, Missouri University of Science and Technology
Donna Charlevoix and Michael Hubenthal, Earthscope Consortium

Date: Sept. 29, Noon-1pm EDT

The webinar will be recorded and made available later.
