Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a project where we’re integrating the Pulsar Pellet Extruder with a Techman TM12 cobot. So far, we’ve been able to print by simply turning the extruder on and off manually. However, we’re now aiming to control the RPM of the extruder directly via G-code, allowing for better synchronization with the cobot’s movements.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s worked with a similar setup or has experience combining a robot/cobot with the Pulsar extruder.

A few specific questions I have:

  • Have you used a motion controller to synchronize the extruder’s RPM with the cobot’s movements? If so, which one, and how well did it work?
  • Alternatively, have you found a reliable way to coordinate extruder speed with cobot movement without a motion controller?
  • Are there any challenges I should be aware of, or best practices for achieving smooth integration between the cobot and the extruder?

Any insights, advice, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello Rens,

To synchronize the extruder with the robot controller, we offer our own motion controller hardware called the Robosync hub. This will give you control on extrusion speed and screw rotation as well as temperature control for the heaters and communication with the robot controller. If this interests you, you can contact sa...@dyzedesign.com.
Alternatively, a PLC can be an option as long as you can output STEP/DIR pulses for the stepper driver and motor.

As robot arms typically don't use G-code directly you would need a path planner software to coordonate extrusion with the robot arm movements, examples of such softwares are AI Build, Adaxis AdaOne, RoboDk or ABB RobotStudio.
