Thermal interface for water coolers

Hello, I'm wondering whether you usually place thermal paste when implementing water cooling on the hot end and/or the extruder. From an engineering point of view that makes a lot of sense, but I'm unsure how easy it would be to manage the risk of silicon grease or similar stuff falling from the surface to the heat block or buildplate

They have a pretty good tutorial/installation guide here: 

If you apply only a thin layer of thermal compound per their recommendation and then wipe up the excess with Rubbing Alcohol and a clean rag there should be no issues with dripping or other contamination.
