Dear Patrons, as we indicated earlier, one of the goals of our term is to work with the community in updating the masterplan to suit our current needs. Here I am presenting additional information on how we intend to achieve this.
We encourage you all to visit the website (https://durgabari.org/capital-projects/) and familiarize yourself with the original plan (circa 2000) and the new master plan (circa 2008). Together with you, we would like to update the assumptions based on current need of the community. We would like to bring your experience gathered over two decades of operations and current judgement of demographic projections. Finally, we will put together a new development plan to preserve our beloved Durgabari for generations to come.
We would like to start off by holding a series of town halls to gather information from you. We would like to know what you are thinking. What are your aspirations? What do you think is appropriate for the community? These sessions would be held virtually and recorded for years to come. The first two townhall dates are Feb 14 and Feb 28. Details on how to join these meetings will be provided in separate eNews and any future town hall will be communicated accordingly.
To facilitate the discussions, we would like to form a team of community members who have a good understanding of grass roots operations of Durgabari. We would like to have representations from every generation and domain of Durgabari’s membership base. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please send a note to eb...@durgabari.org citing your volunteer experience with Durgabari and years of service.
We know this will be a difficult process. There is no doubt that a lot of passion and hard work went into earlier masterplans, and it is also not a secret any plan needs updating with changing times. I would request you all to keep personal interest aside and think from what legacy you would like to present to the future generations to come and preserve Durgabari as a cultural and religious institution. I give you my personal commitment that we will be always respectful, balancing the ambitions and desires against the ground realities of 2021 Houston Durgabari. Thank you all for your support.
Stay safe and may Maa Durga’s blessings be with us always.

Nirmalya Roy
Vice President (2021-2022)
