He was born in Cuttack, Odisha, India, to Amiya Praba and Anath Bandhu Goswami as the 8th of 12 children. A talented athlete from a young age, he represented Odisha in the All India Schools Cricket Tournament for the Cooch Behar Trophy during his school years. He went on to play as a right-hand opening batsman, proudly representing Odisha in the Ranji Trophy Cricket Championship from 1967 to 1972.
Asit graduated from the Regional Engineering College with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 1974, he moved to America to pursue higher education. Asit married his beloved wife, Anita, in 1975 in Fairlawn, New Jersey, and moved to Arizona together so he could complete his MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management. After school, Asit and Anita moved to Texas to start their family.
Asit spent 35 years working for Bechtel as an engineer in various roles, putting his all into providing for his family, until retiring to Richmond, Texas, in 2013. Two of the greatest joys in his life were his daughters, Amrita and Nandita. Later in life, he became a proud grandfather to four beautiful grandchildren, Layla, Arya, Liam, and Aiden. Asit loved sharing pictures of his grandchildren with anyone he met.
In his later years, Asit loved spending time with his family, watching cricket, tasting scotch, cooking for family, and was a connoisseur of good Texas barbecue. As a founding member of Houston Durga Bari, he volunteered his time helping in the kitchen over the years. Asit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
May his soul Rest in Peace.
Sincerely,
