In Memoriam: Shri Sumanta Kumar Sanyal

[June 22, 1941 - March 22, 2026]

With profound love and reverence, we announce the passing of Sumanta Kumar Sanyal, a man
whose life was a quiet testament to kindness, devotion, and grace. He departed this world on
March 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on in all who knew
him.

Born in Kolkata, India, he lived a life that spanned continents and cultures - from Bhutan and
Zambia to Toronto, Boston, and finally Katy, Texas, where he made his home in 2012. A
distinguished chemist by profession, his work carried him across the globe, but it was his gentle
spirit and compassionate heart that truly defined his journey.

On June 6, 1964, he married the love of his life, Jayanti Sanyal. Their enduring bond was one of
deep affection, respect, and companionship - a love that became the foundation of a beautiful
family. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, his daughters Sutapa and Suparna; his
sons-in-law, Deepak Chakraborty and Maneesh Bhatnagar; and his cherished grandchildren
Monica, Arnav, Sonali, and Sophie, who were the light and pride of his life.

A deeply spiritual man, he was a devoted practitioner of Sanatan Dharma. His faith was not only
personal but shared generously with others. Through his dedicated service as a priest and
community leader at the Houston Durgabari, he touched countless lives, nurturing tradition,
devotion, and togetherness.

Sumanta was known for his soft-spoken nature, his impeccable discipline, and his unwavering
kindness. There was a serenity about him - an aura of gentleness and unconditional love that
made everyone feel seen, welcomed, and valued. He believed deeply in hospitality, compassion,
and the joy of companionship. Whether tending to his beloved garden, engaging in spirited
conversations about cricket, movies, politics, or spirituality, or simply sharing a meal, he brought
warmth and grace into every moment.

He lived fully, loved deeply, and gave selflessly. His was a life beautifully lived and richly
blessed. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched, but his spirit—
rooted in love, faith, and kindness—will remain with us always.

Funeral Service:

May his soul Rest in Peace.

Sincerely,

HDBS Executive Board
