In Memoriam: Dilip Kumar Hajra

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing away of Dilip Kumar Hajra, lovingly known as “Borda” “Dada” and “Big Jethu” on July 23, 2025, in Houston, TX, at the age of 80, following a heart attack.Born on January 10, 1945, in Howrah, India, Dilip was the eldest of eight children – a role that shaped his life and the lives of all who knew him. He spent his life living up to the responsibilities that came with that role. A dedicated civil engineer and a selfless soul, Dilip moved to the United States to create better opportunities for his family. He never married, devoting his entire life to selflessly care for his brothers and sisters. From a young age, Dilip single handedly took on the financial and emotional responsibility of his siblings and father. He took on the responsibility of immigrating his family, supporting his siblings’ education and well-being without ever seeking anything in return, earning him a reputation as a pillar of strength, sacrifice, and resilience. Dilip’s intellect, love for reading, deep religious insights and his joy in meaningful conversation left a mark on all who knew him. In earlier years, he was active in volunteering with senior organizations, Hindu worship Society, Hare Krishna Temple and participated regularly at the YMCA. In recent times, the loss of his sisters and close relatives weighed heavily on him and caused him to retreat. Dilip is survived by his brothers, Uday, Tarun, and Barun, sisters-in-law, Everyda, Soma, and Koely and beloved nephews Soham & Pritam. His entire extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews in India & USA remains forever indebted to Dilip’s unwavering support and love. His family—brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins, are heartbroken at this sudden loss, remaining forever indebted to their pillar of support, an epitome of selfless resilience and unwavering responsibility. Dilip’s memory will forever inspire those privileged to have known him.
