Hey Everyone,

I am sorry that I have been out of contact in regards to things that are happening at the school. I truly appreciate what everyone has contributed so far, in having amazing creativity and preparation for our fall semester of classes. Without all of you, there would be no DPAU.

In addressing the specific issue of having classes this semester, I am still very unsure about when they will begin.  Funding for our final capital repairs has been extremely difficult to raise  and I would rather not predict a starting date, without having absolute certainty. A building that is completely up to code is the only way we would all feel comfortable in opening and starting classes.

As we approach October there is a very good chance that we may not have a fall semester. In the event that does happen, I will likely call another meeting and we will see what we can do for students in the interim period until January. I hope you will all pick up with me and continue our progress as soon as we are ready.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

Russell

Thanks for the update Russell.

I would also like to add that we may be closer than we think to reaching our fundraising goal for this month. If we hit this goal in time we can open our doors and start bringing kids in this semester.

In a nutshell, we have a further $12k to raise by 5pm next Friday. This will be enough to bring the building up to code in time to open this semester.

To make this happen, Russell and myself are actively reaching out to the community to show their support for our school. Frankly, neither of us has gotten a good night's sleep in weeks.

We are rolling up our sleeves and doing everything we can to make this happen.

If you can chip in $3 or more to help us reach this goal today, please click here: http://dpau.org/treehouse/donate

Everything helps. Even though we're a few weeks behind schedule, we've come very very far in these last five months. Five months ago we had an abandoned building; today we have a school that simply needs electrical work and plumbing to begin classes.

We have the supplies, the people, and the location, we just need a few extra dollars to complete repairs.

If you can, please forward this email on to anyone you think may be able to help.

Together we can make this happen.

Thank you,
Sean

Art is a foundation of our community; we are dedicated to protecting every student's rights to free arts education, uncensored self-expression, and active community engagement. For example, we have a free visual art school for teens in downtown Denver where after-school and Saturday classes are taught by ten volunteer teachers to 15-25 students per ten week class, culminating with a student show/gala at the end of each semester. Each school is seeking students, teachers, and donors who live in the area, ensuring the school stays open forever. Learn more or donate.
