Sua palestra tem como título “The Measure of the Ordinary – Wittgenstein and the Possibility for a Liberatory Grammar of Inappropriate/d Others”.
Resumo de Jasmin: Words, concepts, language are like a measure, a ruler “laid against reality” (TLP, 2.1512), when we apply them to things, to the world, to ourselves – a metaphor that Wittgenstein retains from the Tractatus to his very last writings and that concerns the fundamental relationship, the ‘fit’, between world, language and life. Yet, a measure is not a mirror image of what is to be measured and the measured can thus in principle always fall between the dividing lines of our measure. In this talk, I will focus on the space between the lines of measurement as a space of inappropriate/d others outside norms and measures. To do so, I will first discuss the relationship between world and language, which I will outline on the basis of Wittgenstein’s reflections on colours as ontological kinds and the relationship between facts of nature and concept formation. In the second part I will shift the focus to the relationship between language and life, i.e. the norms and rules that determine the application of our concepts to particular cases. This will serve as a foundation for a concluding feminist outlook on a possible redescription of the grammar of gender, race and others by taking into account the subjectivity of inappropriate/d others.
