Dear colleagues,

The Canadian Society for Epistemology is hosting its annual meeting,
Deduction, Dialogue, Discourse, on October 13–14, 2020, 9:00 AM EDT/
3:00 PM CEST.

Catarina Dutilh Novaes’s forthcoming book is entitled The Dialogical
Roots of Deduction: Historical, Cognitive, and Philosophical
Perspectives on Reasoning. With incredible breadth and depth, it
presents an eye-opening new perspective on the nature of deductive
reasoning. Its central hypothesis is that “deductive reasoning is
essentially a dialogical phenomenon.” Dutilh Novaes argues for this
hypothesis by demonstrating its explanatory power not only in debates
about logic and consequence, but also as a tool for understanding the
history and psychology of deductive reasoning, as well as its role in
mathematical practice. The book will serve as the theme for the 2020
meeting of the Canadian Society for Epistemology.

The languages of the symposium are English and French, and it will be
hosted virtually via Zoom. Further information, including the list of
speakers, can be found on the CSE website. If you are interested in
attending, please fill out the registration form:
