Philosophical Knowledge - Foundations, Methods, Applications
University of Bergamo - University of Pavia - School of Advanced
Studies IUSS Pavia
A new two-year MA in Philosophy is being inaugurated starting the
academic year 2023/24!
Philosophical Knowledge is an innovative English-taught two-year
Master's Degree in philosophy offered jointly by the University of
Bergamo (headquarters), the University of Pavia, and the School of
Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia.
It is based on a solid interaction between long-standing theoretical
inquiries on philosophical knowledge, methods, and practices and their
application to technological, ethical, economic, and social
challenges, opening up a wide range of professional opportunities for
students.
It provides exceptional learning opportunities, featuring joint
classes by scholars from the three Universities in philosophical,
scientific, and technological fields, and a wide range of applied
labs. To foster internationalization and prepare students to a global
academic career, courses in key philosophical areas will be taught
yearly by leading visiting scholars. In the first year, visiting
professors will include: Alexander Bird (Cambridge), Simon Blackburn
(Cambridge), Martine Nida-Rümelin (Fribourg), Anne Meylan (Zürich),
Achille Varzi (Columbia), Crispin Wright (Stirling/NYU).
Students will be immersed in a lively and stimulating environment,
participating in the life of three Universities and two historical
cities. In-person teaching will be split equally by semesters between
Bergamo and Pavia. Students will be granted incentives for local
mobility, and lectures could be partially attended remotely.
International exchanges will be strongly supported.
Bergamo and Pavia offer campus accommodations and regular connection
with major destinations in Italy and abroad. They are strategically
located, providing an entertaining student life and an affordable cost
of living. They host several Ph.D. programs in philosophy and robust
cultural and business activities, offering career opportunities both
in research and in the private and public sectors. Bergamo and Milan
International Airports provide easy access from anywhere in the world.
Late applications will still be considered on a rolling basis.
