---------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for Tutorial Proposals Diagrams 2018 10th International Conference on the Theory and Application of Diagrams http://www.diagrams-conference.org/2018/ Conference dates: 18th - 22nd June 2018 Location: Edinburgh, UK
Co-located event: International Conference on Conceptual Structures 2018 http://blogs.napier.ac.uk/iccs/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Diagrams is an international interdisciplinary conference series, covering all aspects of research on the theory and application of diagrams. We invite proposals for half-day or full-day tutorials. These tutorials will be held both before and after the main conference, on June 18th (Monday) and June 22th (Friday). They will take place at the main conference venue, Edinburgh Napier University in the UK.
Tutorials are expected to address topics that are of interest to the Diagrams 2018 conference attendees. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
* applications of diagrams, * computational models of reasoning with, and interpretation of, diagrams, * design of diagrammatic notations, * diagram understanding by humans or machines, * diagram aesthetics and layout, * educational uses of diagrams, * evaluation of diagrammatic notations, * graphical communication and literacy, * heterogeneous notations involving diagrams, * history of diagrammatic notations, * information visualization using diagrams, * nature of diagrams and diagramming, * novel technologies for diagram use, * philosophy of diagrams (see the Philosophy of Diagrams special call), * psychological issues pertaining to diagrams (see the Psychology of Diagrams special call), * reasoning with diagrams, * semiotics of diagrams, * software to support the use of diagrams, and * usability and human-computer interaction issues concerning diagrams.
Tutorials differ from workshops in that they do not solicit contributions from attendees. However, attendees have previously particularly enjoyed tutorials that are interactive and spark debate.
Examples of previous tutorials may provide some inspiration and guidance and can be found at:
1. A single page listing a. the title of the tutorial b. the names and contact information for all organizers c. a brief biography of the main organizer
2. A description of the topic and rationale for the tutorial, including a brief description of why the tutorial will be relevant to Diagrams 2018 conference attendees.
3. An abstract describing the tutorial of up to 500 words that can be used to advertise the tutorial on the Diagrams 2018 conference website.
