Everything and Nothing

In this paper I will argue that everything (the totality of all objects) and nothing
(the absence of all objects) are perfectly good objects. Each can be defined as a
certain mereological sum (fusion). Moreover, I shall argue that nothing is a
contradictory object, which is also not an object; and further, that this contradictory
object is, in a certain sense, the ground of reality.

Evans’ Argument and Vague Objects

In 1978, Gareth Evans published a short and somewhat cryptic article purporting to establish
that there are no vague objects. This paper is a commentary on Evan’s argument. Prima facie,
the claim that there are no vague objects is clearly false. Mt. Everest, for example, has no
precise boundaries. And if this is so, there must be something wrong with Evans' argument. In
the paper I will give a model of vague objects, and so diagnose its failings.
