Subject: CfP - Diagrams and Time - Cahiers François Viète AAC

Dear all,

We are pleased to launch a call for contributions for a thematic volume of the Cahiers François Viète (Volume III-22, to be published in February 2027) entitled

‘Diagrams and Time’.

The aim of the volume is to explore the way in which the temporal component comes into play in diagrams, both in their practice and in their meaning.

Three themes are highlighted:

 - the evolution of diagrams, ontogeny and phylogeny:
how time is involved in the genesis of a diagram (construction, reading, production), but also in an evolutionary process that involves several diagrams.

 - gestural practice, drawing and writing:
how time participates in a change of point of view, which no longer sees the diagram as a static entity intermediary between text and image, but as a dynamic practice intermediary between writing and drawing.

 - the diagrammatic representation of time itself:
how time participates in its own representation, which by its spatial nature should be isotropic and homogeneous.

The full call for papers can be accessed via this link:   https://journals.openedition.org/cahierscfv/2674

Contributors can let us know by sending a document of intent (approx. 5,000 characters) to ariles...@ens-lyon.org or fabien...@univ-fcomte.fr

before 7 March 2025
[ please include in the subject line the following tag III22CFV ]

This document should explain the content of the article and how it fits into the thematic dossier.

The full timetable can be found via the link above.

Disciplinary openness plays a key role in our approach, which is why all proposals will be studied with interest, whether they adopt a historical, sociological, philosophical or anthropological point of view.

Yours sincerely

Fabien FERRI and Arilès REMAKI
