Hi everyone,

I hope you had a great first week exploring DEI in outdoor spaces and getting to know your fellow classmates! This week, we'll take the next step by diving deeper into how to cultivate brave spaces of learning and open dialogue where everyone feels empowered to grow.

Action Steps for This Week:

  • Attend the live session on January 28th, 7:30pm ET to 9pm ET - This session will have more participatory activities, I recommend you secure some time and space to be able to be fully present and engaged.

  • Dive into the Week 2 materials: Read and watch the resources on cultivating brave spaces. This can be before or after our live session together.

  • Informational Interview Prep: Start researching organizations you'd like to interview for your project. We will discuss this more in our live session this week. Think about specific questions you'd like to ask about their strategies for building learning cultures and brave spaces.

  • Submit your reflection project by Sunday, February 4th.

Bonus Discussion (Optional):

Reply to the thread to share your week 1 project or some key takeaways you gained from last week’s topic.

See you all in the live session!

Cheers,

Rachel

Hi, everyone!

A key takeaway for me from week 1 is recognizing and accepting that different people in different roles all within one organization are frequently at different levels on that great visual of where one might be on the mountain of organizational DEI work. And that begs of the question, "How do we best help guide everyone upwards and then, ideally, all on the same highest possible level?" And, "What do we do when the ones with the most power and influence are operating on lower levels of DEI work compared to other employees with less power and influence within the company?"

I look forward to continuing exploring these and many more questions- and then turning the thoughts into action.

Soulfully,
Dave
