Commencement Livestream Available
Friday’s commencement ceremony at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates will be streamed live by SHS-TV via the Stevenson Broadcast Network/NFHS Network. The broadcast will begin at 5 p.m. Here is the link to watch the livestream.
Two Named to Daily Herald Academic Team
Seniors Angela Zhang and Tony Tan have been selected to the 2018-19 Daily Herald Lake County Academic Team. Placement on the 10-student squad is based on academic and co-curricular achievements. The team will be published in the Daily Herald on Thursday, May 30.
Archery Team Earns 16 Medals at S3DA Regional
Stevenson’s archery team secured a slew of medals at the Illinois S3DA Outdoor Target Regional in downstate Havana on Saturday. The Patriots won first place in four categories. Junior Caitlin Goldberg and sophomore David Bayer won top honors in Female Traditional and Male Traditional, respectively. Senior Rachel French finished first in Female Fixed Pin, and classmate Kara Carter won the Female Open division.
SHS had three runners-up: sophomores Rebecca Muise (Female Traditional) and Malachi Park (Male Traditional), and junior Madison Higgins (Female Fixed Pin). Sophomore Rayna Finn was third in Female Traditional, and freshman Elisabeth Clavel was fourth. Stevenson finished 3-4-5 in Male Traditional: freshman Jackson Esposito, senior Andrew Szwejbka, and sophomore JP Gordon. Senior Andrew Miller was sixth in Male Fixed Pin, while classmate Brenna Faber was sixth in Female Fixed Pin. Senior Adhya Gowda and junior Amelia Korveziroska were seventh and eighth, respectively, in Female Fixed Pin.
eSports Team Makes National Semifinals
Stevenson’s Counter-Strike:GO team has reached the semifinals of the High School eSports League national Spring Majors Playoffs. SHS beat Blue Valley Southwest High School from Overland Park, Kan., in the quarterfinals, and will take on Francis Howell Central from Cottleville, Mo., this weekend. You can watch the action on Stevenson’s Twitch stream at twitch.tv/aeshsesports and at twitch.tv/team/varsitynetwork. The CS:GO team includes senior captain Brandon Adduci, plus senior Nick Filerman, juniors Shorya Agarwal, Vincent De Guzman and Dean Thomas, and sophomore Stephan Halai.

Girls Lacrosse
Stevenson hosted IHSA Sectional: The top-seeded Patriots beat No. 5 Libertyville in the semifinals, 18-9, advancing to the sectional championship game at 7 p.m. Friday in the Stadium. SHS (13-7) will face third-seeded Deerfield (14-7), an 11-10 winner over No. 2 Lake Forest in the other semifinal. Both teams are on a roll: The Patriots have won 12 of their last 13 games and five in a row, while the Warriors have won nine straight. Stevenson Sports Boosters will pay admission for the first 25 SHS students in attendance (school ID required).
Baseball
Stevenson hosted IHSA Class 4A Regional: The second-seeded Patriots lost to No. 15 Highland Park in the regional semifinals, 4-2, ending their season with a 23-9 record. Senior Michael D’Angelo doubled home junior Jake Surane in the bottom of the third inning with Stevenson’s first run, then scored on the same play after an outfield error. Ryan McElhinny, also a senior, went 2-for-2 with a double, while Jake and senior Chris Farina both drew two walks. - Daily Herald, GameChanger.com
Softball
Stevenson hosted IHSA Class 4A Regional: The 11th-seeded Patriots (14-14) ended their season with an 11-1, five-inning loss to No. 5 Carmel (20-14). Senior Maggie O’Brien singled in Stevenson’s run in the fourth inning. - Daily Herald

The Athletics Division held its annual Spring Sports Awards Night on Monday in the Sports Center. Here is a link to the list of major awards given.
Boys Track and Field Team Prepares for State
Six members of the boys track and field team will travel to Eastern Illinois University for the IHSA Class 3A state meet, which begins Friday and concludes Saturday. Seniors Anand Batbaatar and Maema Njongmeta will compete in field events. Anand is making his second state appearance in shot put, while Maema made the discus field for the second straight year. Also making their second consecutive trip to EIU are sophomore David Smolensky and juniors Shane Johnson and Jahleel Perrin. They will run in the 400- and 800-meter relays with junior Jordan Vincent. David, Shane and Jahleel finished seventh in the 800 relay last spring with Ahmad Dinkins (Class of 2018). Jahleel and David will run in the 100-meter dash, and David also will compete in the 200. Boys Tennis Looks for Another Top 10 State Finish
The boys tennis team will look to extend its streak of top-10 finishes at the Illinois High School Association state tournament, which gets underway today. Stevenson has placed in the state’s top 10 every year since 2007, and has six qualifiers this season. Senior Zach Kim, who finished fourth in the state last year, is a 5-8 seed in singles, while sophomore Eric Perkowski is a 9-16 seed. Zach is making his fourth consecutive state appearance, while Eric reached for the second time (but first in singles). Eric finished second in doubles last year with sophomore Prathinav Merneedi. Both of the current Patriot doubles qualifiers are 9-16 seeds. Seniors Arjun Sheelvanth and Aswath (Ozzie) Viswanathan will be making their third straight trip to state, while sophomores Payton Adkisson and Daniel Tulchinskiy qualified for the first time. Ean Norenberg Honored by Marine Corps
Junior Ean Norenberg has been named a 2019 Semper Fidelis All-American by the U.S. Marine Corps. The program honors 96 elite high school juniors from across the country. Nominated students must have a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, be active in community service, play a competitive team sport, hold a student or community leadership position, and submit an essay describing their philosophy for overcoming obstacles in their life. Ean and his chosen mentor, head football coach Brent Becker, will receive an all-expenses paid trip to attend the four-day Battles Won Academy in Washington, D.C. in July.
