Revised Final Exam Schedules Announced
Seniors will follow a different final exam schedule than all other students next month. The Class of 2019 will have exams in the Field House on Tuesday, May 21, then in classes on Wednesday and Thursday, May 22-23. Senior exams on Thursday, May 23 will end before noon. The Senior Class Party takes place in the afternoon on May 23. Graduation rehearsal will take place in the Field House the morning on Friday, May 24, with the commencement ceremony at 5 p.m. the same day at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates. The change in senior exams was necessary due to snow days and the unalterable graduation date. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors will have final exams Wednesday through Friday, May 22-24. SHS Captures Honors at NU Model UN Conference
Stevenson was named Outstanding Large Delegation at the 16th annual Northwestern University Model United Nations conference last weekend, the final conference of the 2018-19 school year. Four students earned Best Delegate honors in their committees: Sophomore Alex Zhou (Commission on Narcotic Drugs), junior Anand Vadlamani (Congress of Vienna), and seniors Josh Ezrol (Maduro’s Cabinet) and Devanshi Gupta (Zuma’s Cabinet). Seniors Mary Polupan and Anubhav Agarwal were named Outstanding Delegates in the UN High Commissioner for Refugees committee, while sophomore Aditi Singh received the same honor in Alex’s committee. Sophomore Jeanette Han, who was in Aditi’s group, received Honorable Mention, while senior Ellie Baden earned the same award in the Joint Crisis Committee - Democratic Republic of the Congo. Sophomore Clare Hu and junior Janice Lee received Diplomacy Awards in the UN Development Programme.
Students Participating in Art Shows Next Week
Stevenson students will be participating in two art shows on Wednesday, April 24. Juniors Sophia Chen, Joycelyn Guo, Diana Struif and Dylan Chae, and sophomore Emily Fujioka, will represent SHS at the annual 10th Congressional District Art Competition at the College of Lake County. The public reception takes place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Up to 60 pieces of art from Stevenson students will be displayed at the annual North Suburban Conference Art Show in Zion-Benton High School’s cafeteria. The show is open from 6-8 p.m. Ten students will be awarded blue ribbons for their work, and there will be one “Artists Choice” piece from each school.
Senior Honored by U.S. Figure Skating
Senior Aliyah Shaikh has received the top-level award in U.S. Figure Skating’s Graduating Seniors Program. She earned the Platinum level, based on competitive and academic achievements in high school. Her skating achievements included winning a gold medal in 2017 in Croatia, her first international tournament.
Vote on Interior Design Class Projects
Interior Design students have taken the “White Room Challenge,” and now it’s your turn to choose the best design. Students were given a “white room” measuring 11 inches by 17 inches which they had to design from top to bottom as a dorm room for two college students. Vote for your favorite at this link.

Girls Lacrosse
Stevenson 16, Schaumburg 9: University of Connecticut commit Sophie Sorenson scored seven goals and had three assists as the visiting Patriots (6-6) won for the fifth time in their last six outings. Kilian Weber, who will play for Central Michigan, had five goals and an assist. She broke a 2-2 tie with back-to-back goals in the first half that gave SHS the lead for good. Stevenson led 7-3 at halftime. After the Saxons (3-4) closed within 10-7 early in the second half, Kilian scored two goals and assisted on two others during a 5-0 run as the Patriots took control. SHS held Schaumburg scoreless for more than 13 minutes in the second half. Georgia Maskalunas, Michelle Shen, Skylar Zelinske and Shaina Zilber also scored. Boys Water Polo
Stevenson 15, Warren 3: Dima Kobets scored nine goals as the fourth-ranked Patriots (12-6, 4-0) clinched their eighth consecutive North Suburban Conference championship. David Gorin and Dan Maraldo scored two goals. Mark Holzer, Jacob Whiting, Sammy Maya and Grant Huey added one goal apiece. Keeper Alex Mitchell made 13 saves. - Daily Herald
Girls Water Polo
Stevenson 9, Warren 2: Kelly Kempf scored two goals and seven other Patriots also hit the back of the net as top-ranked SHS (17-0) won its 50th consecutive game. Anna Mossakowski (8 saves) and Maggie Bauwens (5 saves) each tended goal for a half.
Boys Tennis
Stevenson 7, Lake Zurich 0: Zach Kim, Eric Perkowski and Nicholas Stec all won their singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. In doubles, the winning tandems were Aswath (Ozzie) Viswanathan and Arjun Sheelvanth (6-0, 6-2), Daniel Tulchinskiy and Payton Adkisson (6-0, 6-1), Andy Dong and Thomas Gong (6-1, 6-0), and Kevin Fei and Gabriel Visotsky (6-0, 6-0). With the road win, the Patriots improved to 7-1 on the year.
Girls Soccer
Stevenson 1, Libertyville 0: Abby Kalou scored the game’s only goal in the first half, assisted by Kristin Hill, as the Patriots (10-1-2) won their third contest in four days. Jenny Staten made 10 saves to earn her seventh shutout of the year. - NFHS Network Replay
Girls Badminton
Stevenson 13, Naperville North 2: The Patriots (18-0) won their 41st consecutive match with the victory over last year’s state runner-up. SHS won nine of 10 singles matches and four of five doubles contests. Emily Hu and Jenny Yang were 21-9, 21-5 winners at No. 1 doubles, while Shibani Ram earned a 21-17, 21-17 decision at No. 1 singles. Kaitlyn Lu held on at No. 2 singles, 21-13, 22-20, while Jyotsna Harikrishna and Benna Li cruised to a 21-6, 21-1 decision at No. 2 doubles. The other winning doubles duos were Shibani and Kaitlyn (21-13, 21-13), and Megan Wei and Jasmine Zhang (21-13, 21-9). Stevenson’s remaining singles victories came from Jyotsna (21-10, 21-5), Emily (21-9, 21-18), Jenny (21-5, 21-12), Benna (21-6, 21-8), Julie Zhu (21-16, 21-18), Giuli Nagai (21-6, 21-5) and Veronica Liu (21-12, 21-12).
Baseball
Lake Zurich 7, Stevenson 0: The Patriots (9-5, 3-2) were held to five hits, all singles, by the Bears’ Noah DeLuga, who has committed to play for the University of Minnesota. The game was moved to SHS because of unplayable field conditions at LZHS. - Daily Herald, GameChanger.com

College Signing Ceremony This Afternoon
Fourteen student-athletes will announce their college selections during a recognition/signing ceremony during eighth period today (2:38-3:25 p.m.) in the Wood Commons. Patriot seniors scheduled to honored include Will Sorenson, Jacob Rosenkranz, Isaiah Hart, Jack Jonota, Hayden Brotz, Michael D’Angelo, Aswath Viswanathan, Natalie Sorenson, Kendall Roberts, Neal Patel, Eleanor Michaud, Nate Spina, Cole Okmin and Seth Collins.
Ray Zhao Wins High Jump at Patriot Relays
Stevenson finished fifth out of 13 teams at its 48th annual Patriot Relays last Thursday. Freshman Ray Zhao won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, while senior Maema Njongmeta was third in discus (153 feet, 9 inches). The 800-meter relay team placed second (1:31.01) and the 400 relay was third (46.72). Anand Batbaatar finished sixth in shot put (48-3) and Anthony Rodriguez was seventh in the first-ever Mark Deady Mile (4:42.81). Click here for all the results.
Pioneer Press Spotlight on Gavin Meng
Varsity boys volleyball player Gavin Meng is the subject of this Pioneer Press piece. The 6-foot-3 junior is following in the footsteps of his parents, who played college volleyball in China.
Today on NFHS Network
Several Patriot sporting events today are scheduled for live streaming. The varsity boys volleyball match against Lake Zurich can be seen live from the Sports Center starting at 6 o’clock, preceded by the junior varsity match at 5. The varsity and junior varsity girls lacrosse games against Warren will be streamed live from the Stadium, with the JV starting at 5, followed by the varsity at 6:30. Watch the action on Stevenson’s NFHS Network page. Also, the varsity and JV boys lacrosse games at Warren are scheduled to be shown on that school’s NFHS Network site. The JV game begins at 5, and the varsity contest kicks off at 7.
