Students Honored for Science Work in Waukegan
Trisha Patel grew up loving science, and her passion has turned into a purpose. The junior is the president of Science for Future, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing science education to elementary schools in low-income areas. She and several other SHS students involved with the group were honored last week by the mayor of Waukegan for starting an after-school science program at one of that city’s schools.
Trisha introduced the Science for Future curriculum at Clark Elementary School, and the program has expanded to four other area schools: Fairhaven in Mundelein, Gavin Central in Ingleside, Village in Round Lake, and St. Anastasia in Waukegan. Three California schools also have adopted the program.
Several Stevenson students have helped Trisha expand the program. Her classmates, Lauren Malenfant and Julia Dorr, were the first volunteers and now serve as vice presidents of Science for the Future’s Illinois chapter. Freshman Neel Patel, Trisha’s brother, is chapter secretary. Seven students are volunteer instructors: juniors Manal Syed and Caroline Ziabka, and freshmen Johnny Abraham, Jacques Malenfant, Pau Mejer, Ben Mun and Komal Talloo.
Improv Club Performing Friday Night
The Failed Presidential Candidates, Stevenson’s improvisational troupe, will give its final performance of the school year at 7 p.m. Friday in the West Auditorium. Admission is free. For those unable to attend, a live stream of the show will be available on the Fine Arts Division’s Vimeo page.
Alumnus Betting on Job Change
Stevenson alumnus Eli Hershkovich (Class of 2012), a producer at The Score (WSCR 670-AM), is joining Radio.com as a producer and sports gambling analyst, according to Daily Herald media reporter Robert Feder.
Honor Your Student With a Lasting Gift
Parents and guardians with graduating seniors are invited to honor their student with a special brick paver to be placed in the southwest entrance to the Stadium. Two sizes of bricks are available. Girls Water Polo
Stevenson at IHSA Buffalo Grove Sectional: The top-seeded Patriots scored 11 goals in the first quarter during a 17-2 rout of Warren, advancing to the sectional semifinals against fifth-seeded Libertyville at 5 p.m. Friday. SHS (31-0), owner of a 64-game winning streak, received four goals from four goals from Kalista Tapas, and three from Anna Gates and Elizabeth Matlin. Elizabeth White scored twice, while Lauren Maloney, Eleanor Michaud, Maddy O’Donnell and Val Zlotnikova all had a goal. Anna Mossakowski and Maggie Bauwens split time as goalkeeper, with Anna making five saves during her first-half stint and Maggie stopping five shots in the second half. Stevenson outshot the Blue Devils, 22-12.
Boys Volleyball
Stevenson d. Warren, 25-22, 25-18: Gavin Meng had eight kills and Thomas Finn added six as the host Patriots (25-6, 6-0) won their sixth straight match and moved closer to capturing the North Suburban Conference championship. SHS can wrap up the league title when it plays host to second-place Lake Forest on Wednesday. Andrews Keevins was 42-of-42 setting with 13 assists, while Will Sorenson dished out four assists on 15-of-15 attempts. Thomas made a team-high six digs, and Gavin and Andrew had five. Justin Ross had a solo block and three block assists. Stevenson, which reached the 25-victory mark for the third straight season, has won 11 of its last 12 matches. - NFHS Network Replay
Girls Lacrosse
Stevenson 19, Lake Zurich 13: The Patriots (10-7, 5-0) clinched their second straight North Suburban Conference title with the road victory. Sophie Sorenson scored six goals and added four assists, extending her program record for career points to 350. Michelle Shen scored five times, while Kilian Weber had four goals and an assist. Erica Spieler added two goals, Georgia Maskalunas had a goal and an assist, and Aedyn Gorenberg also scored. Defensively, the Patriots caused 10 turnovers, with Emily Varshavsky forcing two. After starting the season 1-6, Stevenson has won nine of its last 10 games. The Patriots close the regular season with a Senior Night game against Palatine at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Stadium. - NFHS Network Replay

Girls Track at Sectional, Boys Track at NSC Today
The varsity girls track team will compete in the IHSA Class 3A sectional meet at Lake Zurich today, while the boys have the North Suburban Conference meet at Zion-Benton. Use this link to see girls sectional results tonight. The boys will take part in the Class 3A Buffalo Grove sectional on Thursday, May 16.

Tonight’s varsity girls soccer regular-season finale against Carmel will be streamed live from the Stadium on Stevenson’s NFHS Network page beginning at 6:30. The Patriots will be seeking their school-record 18th victory of the season.
