You Are Not Alone - Bring a Friend to Chalice

Today we ask you to come to Chalice with a friend. Invite someone who might appreciate being part of a conscious, loving spiritual community, who might benefit from the gifts of our Fellowship. Help others know they are not alone in this often challenging life, and that there is a compassionate, justice seeking community that cares, right here in the Conejo Valley. After service we invite your friends to be our guests at our Pancake breakfast, prepared by our families. Let's show how welcoming we can be and what we offer the world.

September 24th - 4 pm

Chalice Lighting

To start your day, a meeting, or before a meal

Know You are Not Alone and Discover the Way Our Voices Rise

For this one moment

Know only that you are loved

That you are safe, and whole and loved

Know that you belong here

Here among us, here upon this earth

In your body

However tired, or broken

Your heart may be

Whatever fear, disappointment, anger

you carry

For this hour know you are not alone

Feel the presence of others

Surrounding you,

Breathing beside you, and with you,

Discovering together the way our voices rise, and fall together

In harmony, in hope

Claim here a resilient freedom

The choice for love, for light, to live with joy

and gratitude and praise

as a form of resistance

We light our chalice reminding us all we are not alone.

~ Rev. Gretchen Haley

Next Week’s Service will be Streamed!

Many of our friends and members will be away at the Cluster retreat at Camp de Benneville Pines from Sept. 29th through Oct 1st, including many of our service technicians.  So we will be participating virtually with the UU Congregation of Santee, CA on Sunday October 1st in place of our in person service. The service is titled: Universe-ALL? Ultra-Universalism and Today.  Ultra-Universalism is one of our historical beliefs as UUs, but not without complication. Today, we look at what it means, and how we might apply it to modern Unitarian Universalism.

Please note that this service will stream from a different Zoom link than usual:

Chalice Invites You to Join a

Chalice Circle!

LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER

At Chalice UU, we explore a new theme each month, based on the inspiration of the Soul Matters program and others. You will hear the themes in Sermons, Religious Education classes, Chalice Circles, and other small groups.

Click here to find out more:    What is a Chalice Circle?

Chalice Circles provide opportunities for us to enrich our lives, strengthen our Fellowship Community, and deepen our connections. Through the spiritual practices of deep listening, authentic sharing and respectful silence, Chalice Circles affirm and promote our third UU principle - acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth.

Why join a Chalice Circle?

✔      deepen our spirituality through shared practice

✔      share our thoughts on life’s big questions in a safe, confidential environment

✔      connect across age, gender, ethnic, economic, and other differences

✔      get to know newer and longtime members in our community

Circles will begin in October 2023 and will meet monthly for 9 months. They are open to all members and friends of Chalice, age 18 or older. Each month, facilitators will share a packet containing questions and exercises with their groups in advance of the circles.

To Register: Follow this link to the CC registration form:

Want to make a special collection suggestion?

Chalice members are invited to submit a Special Collections Request Form for non-partisan, non-profit organizations whose work is consistent with UU values and principles and is not known to engage in activities which would conflict with UU values and principles.  Requests are reviewed quarterly by the Special Collections Review Team.

September's theme is

"The Gift of Welcome"

It takes courage to try something new, for example, when we come into a new community. Of course, we all want to feel welcomed when we come to a new place. How can each of us be a part of a welcoming community? Here at Chalice, we can make an effort to introduce ourselves to newcomers and also to introduce visitors to other people in our congregation. Visitors are given green name tags when they arrive so you can look for those green visitor name tags and say, "Hi!"

We can also encourage visitors to grab red cups during coffee hour. If you see someone with a red cup, introduce yourself and get curious about this new person who shows the courage to put themselves out there and explore our wonderful faith tradition. Perhaps you will meet a new friend in your mission to be welcoming, and friends (both new and old) are indeed a gift!
