SUNDAY SERVICE

Onsite & Online ~  10 am

image.jpeg

Reverend Nica Eaton

Why We Gather

Recent events have reminded us how important Unitarian Universalism’s voice is in our world and raised a deeper question: Why do we gather? This Sunday, as we celebrate our newest members, we’ll explore how spiritual community offers belonging, wisdom, hope, and joy, while helping us become a force for love and light in challenging times.

The registration link below will allow you to register for the service with your preferred email address. A service link will then be sent to that email. This service link will be active 5 minutes prior to the service. As an added benefit, you’ll be sent a recording of the service after it is done streaming!

Chalice Lighting

image.jpeg

To start your day, a meeting, or before a meal

We gather in this time of uncertainty, full of unknowns, as angst closes in upon us.

We light this chalice with a flame that draws us together.
With this flame, we cut through the darkness of isolation and are warmed by the fires of our interconnection.

For this moment, this radical moment, we find a certainty within the knowable bonds of love and community.

~ Amy Williams Clark

UUTHEVOTE

image.jpeg

Dear UUTHEVOTE Team,

Hello all!  We hope you are enjoying these first few weeks kicking off summer.

While we await the large shipment of Florida postcards, we do have inventory for North Carolina.

These do have a later due date than Florida. If you would like some, please put in your orders and we will have them ready for you on Sunday June 14. Once we receive Florida, that will be the priority with a final due date July 28.

North Carolina and the remainder of the cards will be going to five different states, and all those mailings are to be held until the voting begins in each state. We will be sending information about due dates as we receive them.

Let’s pace ourselves as we acknowledge the importance of this work to us all.

With love,

Pamela and Jill

Friday, June 26 - 5:30 pm Potluck, 6:30 pm Discussion

with

Marcy Winograd (via Zoom)

On

Beware: Censorship and Indoctrination

Marcy Winograd will discuss AB 715 legislation that imposes a virtual gag order on Ethnic Studies teachers.  LAUSD has even gone so far as to order teacher training on the use of “neutral terms” to describe sensitive topics.  Her talk will also address ways to challenge proposed bills that seek to conflate anti-Zionism with antisemitism.

Marcy is a retired teacher active with California Teachers Association, United Teachers of Los Angeles, Co-Chair of Central Coast Antiwar Coalition, co-producer of CODEPINK Radio, and legislative liaison for Jewish Voice for Peace-Santa Barbara.

A Message from the Racial & Cultural Justice Team

Statement of Concern

image.jpeg

Dear Chalice members and friends,

Recently, the Racial & Cultural Justice group discussed drafting a statement of concern regarding the militarism inflicted by our country abroad that comes back to impact us all.

We mourn the loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, demonization of “others,” and enduring conflict.  We strive to be committed to the pursuit of peace and justice.

At the May Justice and Compassion Hub meeting, Rev. Nica recommended we reach out for your thoughts on the following draft statement and recommended actions.

We strive to:

·      Support honest diplomatic solutions that protect innocent lives and global human rights.

·      Oppose costly and aggressive military actions pursued without U.S. Congressional authorization, meaningful justification, or majority support of U.S. citizens.

·      Believe in building a world based on peace, pluralism and interdependence instead of domination and violence.

·      Call on people of faith to condemn war or threats of war as a first response to conflict.

Recommended actions concerned people can take to break the silence and promote positive solutions include:

1.    Advocate with our elected representatives regularly

2.    Network and research with other congregations and groups

3.    Communicate with family, friends or others and write letters to editors

Thank you for any thoughts you can share by emailing rcjco...@chaliceuu.org or talking to Barbara L. or Randall E.

We’ll bring your responses back to the Racial & Cultural Justice team.

Chalice Climate Action Team Field Trip:

Polluters Pay Central Coast Town Hall

June 28, 2026 at Noon

Oxnard Performing Arts Center

800 Hobson Way, Oxnard, CA 93030

Instead of our usual monthly Chalice Climate Action Team meeting on Zoom, we'll be attending the Central Coast Stop of The Polluters Pay Statewide Tour. The Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act would hold major fossil fuel companies accountable for their share of climate damages to our state, and reinvest that money in community resilience, clean energy, the essential workers responding to climate disasters, and much more. This legislation will be reintroduced next year, but now is the time to get educated–and excited–in the lead up to its reintroduction.

Join us for an interactive town hall event and plug into the campaign to hold polluters accountable and build a cleaner, more just future for California together. This is a family-friendly event. Lunch and interpretation will be provided.

Be sure to register here: https://actionnetwork.org/events/central-coast-event

If you plan on attending, please also email us at: cc...@chaliceuu.org

Democracy In Action

image.jpeg

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the political climate and unsure of how to take action, you're not alone. To help sift through all of the information, the Democracy in Action Team is sending out details each week on what actionable items you can take to fight political division and its threats to equal rights, our values, and democracy. It lists upcoming in-person, local events, as well as important calls you can make to your representatives. If you'd like to receive these emails, please email Kelly Niebergall at kellyni...@gmail.com. Let's resist together.
