SUNDAY SERVICE

Onsite & Online ~  10 am

Rev. Nica Eaton

What Can We Trust?

When the world around us is devolving into chaos, what can we trust? Trusting ourselves can feel impossible when we are overwhelmed by uncertainty, grief, or fear, yet deep within us lies a wisdom that has guided us through every challenge. This service explores how we can cultivate trust, not through control or certainty, but through deep presence, self-compassion, and an openness to life as it unfolds. Grounded in Unitarian Universalist values and the world's wisdom traditions, we will reflect on how we can trust both ourselves and our community, moving beyond fear into a place of quiet confidence, resilience, and love.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear member Charles "Chuck" McKinnon. He was born August 19, 1933 and led a full and eclectic life; holding a doctorate in aerospace engineering, he held patents from his work with various aerospace companies. His work with Engineers Without Borders took him to Africa, building water towers for remote villages. He was an Air Force veteran and served in the reserves for many years, as well as an accomplished sailor, amateur astronomer, and passionate camper. He and his wife Laure have been members of Chalice for two decades. He is survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family will hold a celebration of life at Chalice on May 17th.

A Message from the Chalice Board

Hi Members of Chalice,

Following a request at our Mid-Year meeting, we’ve made it easier to access our financial reports and we continue to give you access to the board meeting minutes and a lot more.

Accessing our Leadership Documents can be as easy as going to our website, clicking on the Members pull-down, and then clicking on Members Resources, which will take you to our Shared Google Drive. Several years ago, we set up a Shared Google Drive for all members, called ‘Members.’ Inside, you'll find folders with various information, including: Board, Community Life, Covenant/Values/Vision, History, and Library. Here is the link:  Members Shared Drive

In the Board folder, you can access board meeting minutes, fellowship meetings, financial reports, and other organizational documents. Here is the direct link: Members Board Shared Drive

Feel free to explore the information to stay informed about the work of your volunteers and staff, and/or take some time to get familiar with all the available resources.

Our Chalice Vision has been slightly edited to incorporate disabilities into our work, take a look: Covenant/Vision/Values

We hope this is helpful. Please feel free to reach out if you need assistance or have questions: Pres...@chaliceuu.org, and Trea...@chaliceuu.org for Financial questions.

Warmly,

Annie Barker and Chalice Board

Greetings Chalice from the Better Building Use Team

(aka BBUT)

We are a group who volunteered at January’s congregational meeting to clear out things that are no longer being used by us but are taking up useful space in various corners of our building. The ultimate goal is to make the best use of the precious space that we own.  We will identify things that don’t seem to be in use and we need your help in a couple of ways:

  1. Help us identify things that, even if they might look like random items, actually are currently being used.

  2. Help us identify things that may have significant historical significance and should be held onto in some form or find its way to a caretaker.  For example, the “blue tree” from the YRUU room.

  3. Help us find new homes for things if you are interested in owning or purchasing from us (or repossessing things that may have once been yours.)

  4. Let us know if you think anyone else you know- in Chalice or beyond- might be interested in or need any of the things we are clearing out.

 Process for dealing with stuff:

  1. We will post a brief description (and pictures when possible) of items we believe we no longer want or need.  This notice of things “on the chopping block” will be in News and Notes and in the slides before each service.

  2. You will have one week to let us know if something needs to be handled a particular way.

  3. If you see something you think we should hold onto, contact us via email at bbu...@chaliceuu.org

  4. If nobody indicates a use or need for something, we will sell/donate/discard items as appropriate.

You, that’s right each and everyone of YOU, are the crucial link in helping us identify and process stuff correctly.  Please let us know by email at bbu...@chaliceuu.org You can also be in touch with Erika, Claudia, Tim or Randy.

We are very excited to be clearing things out so our beautiful building serves our needs in the best way possible.

Thanks very much!

Chalice Lighting

To start your day, a meeting, or before a meal

A Sturdy Flame

We light this chalice with hope, a sturdy flame we nurture in these difficult times.

We light this chalice with the heart of compassion for a nation divided by politics and strife.

We light this chalice knowing that it will take all of us to repair this world we live in.

May we find rest, compassion and the hope that we need to nurture ourselves and each other.

May this sturdy light remind us of the people we can be, and the difference we can make in the world together.

~ Rev. Julianne Lepp

Joys and Sorrows have become increasingly challenging to manage with too many channels coming in at the same time during service. We are trying to streamline things for our wonderful Worship team. We have decided to stop receiving texts and Zoom chat joys and sorrows and instead request that all joys and sorrows be emailed prior to service by 8 am on Sunday mornings to this address: j...@chaliceuu.org.

You may still fill out cards if you are attending in person.
