Starting Point is a three session group, designed to deepen your spiritual understanding of Unitarian Universalism and to connect newcomers with members, creating a web of interconnection at Chalice. Additionally, newer people will experience Chalice’s small group culture, thereby deepening your spiritual engagement with our community.
A commitment to all three sessions is requested.

As we light our chalice today, let us remember that we are part of a great community of faith.

Many Mansions is a non-profit organization that provides service-enriched affordable housing to low-income residents of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, with a special focus on those of very low-income, who are formerly homeless, seniors, veterans, or disabled. Many Mansions provides over 600 units of affordable housing serving approximately 1300 adults and 300 children, offers on-site services including job training, case management, homework tutoring and more.

Rick Schroeder has led Many Mansions since July 2002 and is an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of California and Minnesota.

PWR Regional Assembly - February 4-6th, 2022
Registration for virtual attendance ends January 23rd
Our PWR Regional Assembly is that inspirational, radically inclusive, beyond-the-congregation UU community we’ve missed. We can engage fully, wherever we are. Whether onsite at the Hyatt along the bay in San Diego, or online in the comfort of our own homes, we will have opportunities for connection in small groups, inspirational worship, transformative learning, and just plain community fun.

Note: Originally this was scheduled to be a hybrid online and in person class, however due to the nature of the material being covered, we have decided to focus on either an in-person experience or online only depending on Covid conditions at the time. Watch this space for more information.
Camp is slowly opening back up and we’re planning a return to the mountains for fellowship and an exploration of Faith and Renewal! We will have a total of 22 spots available this year and will have a lottery if interest exceeds capacity. The camp is only allowing fully vaccinated campers, and may even require a booster, still to be determined. That said, our space is limited and social distancing will not really be possible. We will be cooking together and sharing the small common area during our meals and program portion. Please consider whether you will be comfortable in that setting.
The camp is 2.5 – 4.5 hours away, nestled in the Jeffrey Pines of the San Bernadino Mountains, not far from Big Bear or Redlands. We sleep in heated cabins, with full bathrooms, and meals are included. We take turns sharing in the meal preparation and most women choose to carpool to and from the retreat. Participation in the program portion is expected, and there is always time for crafts, hiking, and quiet reflection.

Veganuary!
Try vegan this January
Research is increasingly showing the link between what we eat and damage to our planet. Animal farming is a leading emitter of climate-changing gases. It provides us with just 18 percent of our calories and yet is responsible for 60 percent of agriculture’s greenhouse gas emissions. Oxford University research shows that plant foods – including nuts and soya – have a far less damaging impact than animal foods.
Veganuary is a non-profit organization that encourages people worldwide to try vegan for January and beyond.
Veganuary inspired and supported more than half a million people to try plant-based eating during their 2021 campaign – with participants from over 200 countries and territories. The organization has worked with businesses to drive up plant-based food options in shops and restaurants, and has made veganism more visible and accessible through their work with national and international media.
Millions of people have already taken part in Veganuary. Will you join them?
Chumash Heritage Sanctuary - Support Letter
On November 9, 2021, NOAA and the Biden Administration formally advanced the proposed Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary into the designation process. This is a monumental step in a more than 40 year effort to preserve sacred Chumash cultural sites, unique coastal waters, and biodiversity hotspots along the Central Coast of California.
The Public Scoping period for the proposed Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary is currently underway until Monday, January 10, 2022.
