SUNDAY SERVICE

Onsite & Online ~  10 am

Reverend Nica Eaton

Beyond the Pulpit: Unveiling Ministry

What does a minister really do all week? And how is that work connected to the well-being of the whole congregation? Join us, as Rev. Nica shares a behind-the-scenes look at the joys, demands, and sacred responsibilities of ministry. She explores the visible and invisible aspects of her role, and why sustainable rhythms like sabbaticals and study leave matter, not just for the minister, but for the health and vitality of the entire community. Tim Snowber will also offer reflections on the importance of shared ministry and how we grow stronger together.

The registration link below will allow you to register for the service with your preferred email address. A service link will then be sent to that email. This service link will be active 10 minutes prior to the service. As an added benefit, you’ll be sent a recording of the service after it is done streaming!

CHUCK THOMAS

Dear Chalice Members,

It is with sorrow we share that Rev. Chuck Thomas, a member of this Fellowship, died peacefully on June 25 at age 89.

Chuck joined Chalice in 2014 after living most of his life in Ohio. Before his retirement Chuck often filled our pulpit while visiting his family in California, and he may currently hold the record for most appearances as a guest preacher.

That deliberately sounded like a baseball statistic: Chuck was a Unitarian since the '50s, and a UU minister since the '70s, but he became a Dodgers fan in the 1940s.

Longtime Fellowship members may recall that Chuck presided at our Child Dedication service in 1992, for Allison Hess, Aaron & Asher Lober, and Ben Champion.

Chuck is survived by his 2 daughters, Lorella and Linda, and 3 grandchildren, their spouses, and 4 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Chalice at 3 pm on August 23rd. In the meantime, his family invites you to enjoy a banana split and/or a Dodgers game in his honor.

For donations in Chuck’s memory, his family recommends:

The UUA’s Rev. Chuck and Nancy Thomas Scholarship
Checks can be sent to the UUA, Stewardship & Development, 24 Farnsworth Street, Boston, MA  02210 with Thomas Scholarship in the memo line;

or
The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation https://www.mlb.com/dodgers/community/foundation/support/donation

Chalice Lighting

To start your day, a meeting, or before a meal

We give thanks, for all who share in this ministry—
For the lay leaders and volunteers, the musicians and greeters,
The committee chairs, justice leaders, and chalice circle hosts,
The pastoral care team and every helping hand.

This flame honors not just one, but many,
Not just a minister, but a shared calling,
To build a beloved community,
Rooted in love and justice, and carried forward together.

~Nick Wilbourn (adapted)

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the political climate and unsure of how to take action, you're not alone. To help sift through all of the information, the Democracy in Action Team is sending out details each week on what actionable items you can take to fight political division and its threats to equal rights, our values, and democracy.
