Chalice Lighting
To start your day, a meeting, or before a meal
The central task of the religious community is to unveil the bonds that bind each to all. There is a connectedness, a relationship discovered amid the particulars of our own lives and the lives of others. Once felt, it inspires us to act for justice. It is the church that assures us that we are not struggling for justice on our own, but as members of a larger community. The religious community is essential, for alone our vision is too narrow to see all that must be seen, and our strength too limited to do all that must be done. Together, our vision widens and our strength is renewed.
We light this chalice to widen our vision and renew our strength.

PWR Regional Assembly - February 4-6th, 2022
Registration for virtual attendance ends January 23rd
Our PWR Regional Assembly is that inspirational, radically inclusive, beyond-the-congregation UU community we’ve missed. We can engage fully, wherever we are. Whether onsite at the Hyatt along the bay in San Diego, or online in the comfort of our own homes, we will have opportunities for connection in small groups, inspirational worship, transformative learning, and just plain community fun.
Visit our webpage to learn more and register.
Note: Originally this was scheduled to be a hybrid online and in person class, however due to the nature of the material being covered, we have decided to focus on either an in-person experience or online only depending on Covid conditions at the time. Watch this space for more information.
Camp is slowly opening back up and we’re planning a return to the mountains for fellowship and an exploration of Faith and Renewal! We will have a total of 22 spots available this year and will have a lottery if interest exceeds capacity. The camp is only allowing fully vaccinated campers, and may even require a booster, still to be determined. That said, our space is limited and social distancing will not really be possible. We will be cooking together and sharing the small common area during our meals and program portion. Please consider whether you will be comfortable in that setting.
The camp is 2.5 – 4.5 hours away, nestled in the Jeffrey Pines of the San Bernadino Mountains, not far from Big Bear or Redlands. We sleep in heated cabins, with full bathrooms, and meals are included. We take turns sharing in the meal preparation and most women choose to carpool to and from the retreat. Participation in the program portion is expected, and there is always time for crafts, hiking, and quiet reflection.
The price is $160, and some scholarships will be available if needed. If you choose to participate, please send an email to Andy Pletcher at andypl...@gmail.com by Sunday, January 9th! Contact Jill Schlaus or Andy Pletcher with additional questions.

Try plant-based!
Adopting a more plant-based diet could give rich countries a “double climate dividend” of lower emissions and more land for capturing carbon, a new study says.
Animal-based foods have higher carbon and land footprints than their plant-based alternatives, and are most commonly consumed in high-income countries. The study, published in Nature Food, investigates how the global food system would change if 54 high-income countries were to shift to a more plant-based diet.

Shifting from the standard American diet to a plant-based diet can sometimes be a little confusing. You’ve eaten one way your entire life, after all, and any habit you’ve followed for a long time is tough to change, and of course, you’re probably confused about where to start. Sure, it’s easy enough to say eat more plants, but how? Fortunately, you don’t have to expend much mental energy on this, as experts shed light on what first steps they recommend!
