Sci-Fi Latino Noir Performance

Written & Performed by

José Torres-Tama

Torres-Tama treads that dangerously vague turf of performance art gracefully… He takes Latino life on a magical mystery tour with dexterity and daring.

---The Village Voice (New York)

ALIENS, IMMIGRANTS & OTHER EVILDOERS is an inventive Sci-Fi Noir performance solo that exposes the hypocrisies of a system that vilifies the same people whose labor it readily exploits.

In a scintillating, utterly absorbing seventy-five minutes, Mr. Torres-Tama dissects the current immigrant situation from a personal viewpoint that reaches back through American history to its earliest days and follows that thread to the present moment… José Torres-Tama is a performance artist of the highest caliber.

--Theatre Notes (Los Angeles)

“…One moment we were on the verge of tears, the next, we were laughing uncontrollably. On a visceral level Torre—Tama’s work aims for the heart; on the cerebral level, it blows minds.”

--Dr. William Stark

Dept. of Modern & Classical Languages

University of Rhode Island

SUNDAY SERVICE

Onsite & Online ~  10 am

Reverend Nica Eaton

Giving Thanks Amidst Challenges

As the season of gratitude arrives, how do we open our hearts to thankfulness when life feels uncertain or hard? This Sunday we’ll explore the practice of gratitude not as denial of struggle, but as a pathway to resilience and joy. Together we’ll share our annual Harvest Bread Celebration, breaking bread in community and giving thanks for the blessings that sustain us even in difficult times.

The registration link below will allow you to register for the service with your preferred email address. A service link will then be sent to that email. This service link will be active 5 minutes prior to the service. As an added benefit, you’ll be sent a recording of the service after it is done streaming!

Grateful Gathering Drop in Circle - All Are Welcome!

November 23 - Noon to 1:30pm

 in the Nest

image.jpeg

Join this month’s Grateful Living Circle. This drop in group will offer the warm bond of small groups we are all familiar with, while bringing fresh new material from Grateful Living. Together, we will be in awe of the beauty around us, hold one another gently in the tender moments, and be open to all the wondrous things waiting just around the corner as we explore what it means to live a life of gratitude.

This gathering is open to anyone who would like to participate.

We hope to see you there!

Chalice Lighting

To start your day, a meeting, or before a meal

A practice of gratitude is not about dismissing sadness, anger, fear, or confusion. Rather, it offers us the opportunity to see that we often experience multiple feelings at once; to welcome joy into the same places where we hold grief; to turn our attention to what is quietly growing and breathing day by day, which, to our possible surprise, includes ourselves.

As we light this chalice may we remember to spark the light in the middle of the dark, and find gratitude amidst our challenges.

~ Kristin Lin

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the political climate and unsure of how to take action, you're not alone. To help sift through all of the information, the Democracy in Action Team is sending out details each week on what actionable items you can take to fight political division and its threats to equal rights, our values, and democracy. It lists upcoming in-person, local events, as well as important calls you can make to your representatives. If you'd like to receive these emails, please email Kelly Niebergall at kellyni...@gmail.com. Let's resist together.
