HOLIDAY HELPERS
Collecting Unwrapped Gifts and $25 Grocery Gift Cards
Last Day: This Sunday December 8th
This time of year can be especially challenging for those who struggle to provide food and necessities for their families. If you have the means to do so, we invite you to participate in the HOLIDAY HELPERS program which supports Many Mansions families by donating grocery gift cards (in the amount of $25) and unwrapped holiday gifts.
Give a Gift of Joy to youth at-risk. Many mansions are asking for unwrapped gifts for kids of all ages. Parents will directly pick the gifts for their children.
Below are some ideas of most requested toys amongst our youth residents:
Board Games: Monopoly, Hungry Hippos, Scattergories
Science Experiments: Magnetic kit, Crystal Growing, Volcano kit
Arts and Crafts: Friendship Bracelet Kits, Art Supplies, Slime Kits
Pretend Play Items: Magnetiles, Puzzles, Doctor Kits, Construction Tool Sets
Gift Cards: Target, Walmart
Legos/Duplos: Friends, Harry Potter
Barbie: Career Dolls, Playsets, Reveal Fashion Dolls
SUNDAY SERVICE
Onsite & Online ~ 10 am
Matt Chapa
Knock Knock
Every one knows "knock knock" jokes as variations of a well trod formula that are never really funny; at best, just barely amusing... The focus of this service will be on the power of really having a NEW year, versus a revised and updated last year through the power of being open to the presence of being present, versus just being on auto-pilot and reacting. Waking up each day in a sort of Groundhog Day reality versus jumping off the cliff in a Butch & Sundance or Thelma & Louise or Harold & Maude fashion of living in the moment and harvesting a bracing version of what we could be.

Dear UUtheVote Team and other interested Chalice Members-
We won't say this is our LAST opportunity to do something for our democracy this year (we are open to possibilities), but it is likely that it is our last.
In support of the campaign action described below, we have preprinted postcards and we have stamps. We are writing to President Biden. Please see us Sunday either before service or upstairs in Room 1 afterwards. You can fill out one or possibly two cards, and depending on supply, you can take another one with you for a friend or family member. Keep in mind these must be mailed exactly on Tuesday, December 10 to align with this ERA campaign.
A national campaign (supported by many organizations) is afoot to finally make the Equal Rights Amendment law, and it has to be done in the remaining weeks of President Biden's term.
The Equal Rights Amendment:
Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after ratification.
Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in 2020. The first Trump administration attacked the ratification on the grounds that a time limit that Congress had agreed to had long passed. However, several lawsuits later, and with the American Bar Association weighing in, it was determined that a time limit for Constitutional amendments was itself unconstitutional. So all that remains in order to make the ERA part of the constitution is for the President to request that the national archivist sign and publish the ERA in the national registry.
Activists and supporters are being asked to write a postcard to Biden and mail it on December 10 and to recruit as many people as possible to do the same. Thousands of these cards are being signed and collected as we speak to deliver to the White House in bulk on December 10.
Things you can do:
On December 10, send a postcard with the message, Publish the ERA now!!, addressed to:
President Biden
1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW
Washington, DC 20500
Ask as many friends as possible to each send one, too.
Around December 15, when the postcards will be arriving at the White House, call the White House and leave the same message at: 202-456-1111.
About the same time, send an email message by going to: www.whitehouse.gov/contact
We have power and, if hundreds of thousands of us, maybe millions of us, urge Biden to act, he may just do it. He cares about his legacy, and this could only enhance it!!
You can learn more about the ERA HERE.

Chalice Lighting
To start your day, a meeting, or before a meal
We light our chalice as a symbol of the Light within us
and the life that flows through the world around us.
It is our beacon as we search for truth.
It is the warmth in our hearts for love.
And it is the energy that propels us to action.
May we be kindled by our time together.
