SUNDAY SERVICE

Onsite & Online ~  10 am

Reverend Nica Eaton

Reclaiming a Language of Reverence

Words like God, holy, sin, religion or church can feel loaded or alienating to many UUs, but do they still have something to offer us? Join us as we gently unpack and reinterpret religious language, exploring how, in translation, it might benefit our shared spiritual journey.

The registration link below will allow you to register for the service with your preferred email address. A service link will then be sent to that email. This service link will be active 10 minutes prior to the service. As an added benefit, you’ll be sent a recording of the service after it is done streaming!

Chalice Lighting

To start your day, a meeting, or before a meal

We light this chalice

like a lantern in ancient woods,

to guide our way through words once feared,

sometime loved,

now calling us again.

May this flame unveil the sacred

in words we once set down,

in the hush that holds their echo,

in the breath that finds its voice

to name what the heart has never lost.

Come, let us kindle meaning,

and walk together into the woods of

the language of reverence.

Please email any joys and sorrows prior to service by 8 am on Sunday mornings to this address: j...@chaliceuu.org.

You may still fill out cards if you are attending in person.

Help show our welcoming love!

Volunteer for a shift at the Chalice table for Ventura Pride on August 16

As we work to put our faith into action as a welcoming congregation, it is important to show our solidarity with our rainbow coalition family. We’re requesting support from you, our Chalice beloveds, to show those being persecuted that they belong, they are appreciated, they are loved. Come join in the fun and community by visiting the Oxnard pride event or by tabling with us at the Ventura Pride event on August 16th.

SpiritRest Silent Retreat

SpiritRest is a facilitated five-day silent retreat for Unitarian Universalists and other spiritual seekers. Our 2025 gathering will be August 24-29 in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. This retreat is led by UU ministers Lucy Bunch, Arvid Straube, and Sharon Wylie.

Retreatants meet with a spiritual director for a half hour each day. In addition to the practice of silence, there is guidance for meditation, labyrinth walks, prayer, art journaling, Qi gong, and InterPlay. There is also time for singing together. Each day closes with a vespers service at sundown.

Blessings,

Rev. Sharon Wylie

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the political climate and unsure of how to take action, you're not alone. To help sift through all of the information, the Democracy in Action Team is sending out details each week on what actionable items you can take to fight political division and its threats to equal rights, our values, and democracy. It lists upcoming in-person, local events, as well as important calls you can make to your representatives. If you'd like to receive these emails, please email Kelly Niebergall at kellyni...@gmail.com. Let's resist together.
