Justice Leaders with Matt Chapa
Our UU Values in Times of War
Today we explore how our UU values guide us in times of: war, justice, equity, transformation, pluralism, interdependence, and generosity, all centered on and flowing from love. You’ll be hearing from some of our Justice Leaders who felt called to speak following our country’s latest military actions.
The registration link below will allow you to register for the service with your preferred email address. A service link will then be sent to that email. This service link will be active 5 minutes prior to the service. As an added benefit, you’ll be sent a recording of the service after it is done streaming!

To start your day, a meeting, or before a meal
We light this chalice
Symbolic of the warmth of community and
The brightness that love brings to the world
Illuminating our search for justice and peace
Light, that force that nurtures all living things
Here in our midst in this flame,
So tiny and so significant.

Film Screening and Discussion

Friday, July 17th – 6:30 p.m. PT (In person* and online)
Please note earlier start time!
Five years in the making, this film combines investigative journalism, stunning visuals, and little discussed stories from impacted communities, EARTH’S GREATEST ENEMY challenges audiences to rethink the hidden costs of a global military empire and its planetary consequences. Provocative, urgent, and eye-opening, this is an honest and timely film documentary that you will not see in mainstream theaters. It will change how you see both the military and environmentalism.
Lifelong activist Cindy Piester moderates our discussion.

Dear Chalice members and friends,
Recently, the Racial & Cultural Justice group discussed drafting a statement of concern regarding the militarism inflicted by our country abroad that comes back to impact us all.
We mourn the loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, demonization of “others,” and enduring conflict. We strive to be committed to the pursuit of peace and justice and invite you to join us at our service on:
July 12 on “Our UU Values in times of War.”
At the May Justice and Compassion Hub meeting, Rev. Nica recommended we reach out for your thoughts on the following draft statement and recommended actions.
We strive to:
Support honest diplomatic solutions that protect innocent lives and global human rights.
Oppose costly and aggressive military actions pursued without U.S. Congressional authorization, meaningful justification, and majority support of U.S. citizens.
Believe in building a world based on peace, pluralism and interdependence instead of domination and violence.
Call on all people to condemn war or threats of war as a first response to conflict.
Recommended actions concerned people can take to break the silence and promote positive solutions include:
Advocate with our elected representatives regularly
Network and research with other congregations and groups
Communicate with family, friends or others and write letters to editors
Come to our service this week!
Thank you for any thoughts you can share by emailing rcjco...@chaliceuu.org or talking to Barbara L. or Randall E. We’ll bring your responses back to the Racial & Cultural Justice team.

Save the date, our cluster Retreat is just a few months away! The Retreat is set for October 2-4. All UU members and friends in our region are welcome at the annual Cluster Camp Weekend. The camp weekend takes place at Camp de Benneville Pines in the San Bernardino mountains. The camp is owned by all the churches in the Pacific Southwest region. Please be sure to tell others and feel free to contact Annie or David Barker at 805-415-4918 for additional information. Details will be forthcoming and updated registration forms will be available mid-June.
Thank you and happy day,
Annie & David Barker
