Hello all,

The clocks have gone back, the mornings are only getting colder, and the river is chock-a-block with boats. This can only mean one thing; the Fairbairn cup is fast approaching! Racing this year will take place on Thursday 4th December for Novices and Friday 5th December for Seniors. The course will run the same gruelling 4.3km (or 2.7km for Novices or 3.4km for IVs) as usual. Division timings will be as follows:

Thursday 4th:
9:15 - Men's Novice VIIIs
11:30 - Women's Novice VIIIs
14:00 - Novice VIIIs Div 2

Friday 5th
9:30 - Men's Senior VIIIs
12:00 - Women's Senior VIIIs
14:15 - Senior IVs

More information about the exact course and the race as a whole can be found here.

Entries

Entries will be open from 30th  October until 19th November. The form will allow you to select a number of boats you wish to enter into the following categories:
  • Novice college VIIIs
  • Senior college VIIIs
  • Inviational VIIIs (including Alumni crews)
  • Senior college IVs
  • Invitational IVs

For guidance on which category to enter your crews under please refer to the Rules and Regulations. If you still have any queries about crew eligibility feel free to contact me.

Entries will be taken by completion of this entry form.

Payments should be made upon completion of the form and will be taken by bank transfer; this will be expected to have cleared by Wednesday the 26th November or your entries will be withdrawn.

Due to historically large numbers of entries Colleges will be limited in the number of Alumni crews they can enter to a maximum of 3 Men's VIIIs and 3 Women's VIIIs, should the IVs division also be full this limit may be enforced there also however this was not a problem last year. In the event of a division being full we may have to remove some crews from the start order, should this happen, the club will be informed and a full refund processed as quickly as possible. In such cases priority will be given first to Cambridge College crews as this is a student run event primarily for students.

Hot drinks and Boaty blazers - Watch the race from Cambridge 99s RC

Rowers, friends and family are welcome to watch the start of the race from the balcony at Cambridge 99s Rowing Club, opposite Midsummer Common at the end of Kimberley Rd.
During racing on both days, they will be offering competitors and supporters pastries, cakes, hot/cold drinks and generally spreading wintery cheer! In addition to this, on the Friday, Perry's will be operating a blazer fitting at Cambridge 99s for those interested in purchasing a boatie blazer.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible racing soon!

Best wishes and with much Boaty love,

John Jessop
