Dear Captains,
Just a couple of gentle reminders, which we would be grateful to have passed onto your rowers, coxes and coaches.
1. Please assess river conditions before boating. This morning it was quite foggy, and crews should probably have been carrying lights given the conditions. Most were, which was great to see, but if coxes/coaches could be reminded to assess the conditions for themselves that would be great. This applies not just to fog and lights, but any conditions; a green flag does not necessarily mean you should boat, for example.
2. There is a spinning zone in the Michaelmas Term between Christ's and Caius boathouses, for novice crews heading downstream only. This allows novice crews to stay in the area between there and Jesus Lock if they don't want to go all the way down to the P&E. Note in particular that this spinning zone is not opposite Peterhouse/the Fort St George, where I have witnessed crews spinning illegally. Moreover, unusually, in this spinning zone priority is given to crews boating from affected boathouses.
I hope you're all enjoying being back on the river!
Best wishes,
Luke
