Dear David

 

My name is Shiuli Davis; I was born, raised and educated in Kolkata but have lived for the past 20 years in Henley-on-Thames, home of Henley Royal Regatta.  Because of my heritage and Trustee work with the HOPE Foundation UK which helps educate, feed and protect street children of Kolkata, I have been approached by Calcutta Rowing Club (CRC) to be the official spokesperson for the 3rd International Friendship Regatta 2024 to be held from 25th November to 1st December 2024 in Kolkata, India.

 

Please share this incredible invitation with fellow scullers. I was fortunate enough to have been invited to the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2nd International Friendship Regatta last year. Witnessing first hand just how much camaraderie there was within the rowing fraternity, I was particularly touched by the generosity of hospitality extended to them by CRC. Please don’t take my word for it, instead read Andrew Boyle, Honorary Secretary of London Rowing Club‘s (LRC) account of his stay in the Bulletin.

 

It is in this spirit that CRC are hosting a 3rd International Friendship Regatta. Places will be snapped up fast as board and lodging are complimentary, likewise local transfers to and from the airport and to the various Clubs visited for lunch.

 

In a nutshell, you and your fellow scullers are in for a treat. Even the entry fee for overseas rowers has been waived. All you need to do is check your diaries, apply for a visa using CRC’s Honorary Secretary’s name and Club address, have the necessary jabs and book a flight (Air India have preferential rates at this time of the year). Please read the literature enclosed for all the details.

 

I shall be extending this invitation to all international rowing clubs so these spaces which are on a first come basis are likely to go extremely fast with a closing date of 30 October 2024.

 

All I can say is should you decide to go, you will have a fabulous and memorable experience. This is the festive and wedding season in Kolkata with November and December enjoying some of the best weather.
