My name is Alexandra (Alex) and I am faculty at UC Santa Cruz. I am the organizer and general chair for FOCS, so if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at any point.
All of you are familiar with the conference
website by now, since you already registered. We have created a
google group for people that are looking to carpool from the airport. Once you sign up, you can email the list and coordinate with other attendees that are interested.
We are offering surf lessons the last two days of the conference, but unfortunately, all the spots have filled out. I will send out emails to the surfing groups separately.
As you might have noticed in the schedule, we have allocated times every day for "community sessions". Other than surfing lessons (and also concurrently for those who will not be surfing), those are times where we will be holding some fun activities, such as board games or karaoke, as well as student/postdoc graduating bits.
More information about the graduating bits can be found on the website. Students and postdocs that are interested and are in the job market, please make sure to check the information on the website and
sign up, as this is a very crucial event that can assist your job search. On a related note, if you end up loving Santa Cruz after you visit, UCSC is
hiring in theory. :)
I hope to see you all at the reception on Nov 8, where we have scheduled a very exciting surprise event :)
Due to recent political events, some of our colleagues were unable to physically attend the conference. We were able to secure live streaming via zoom. At the end of this email, I include the zoom links for each of the three conference rooms. They will be running daily during the whole duration of the conference. For information about which talks are held in which room, please refer to the
schedule. Also, please feel free to share these links with colleagues from the areas that are affected by the war, who were unable to register but will still want to tune in. Note that these links do not allow for interaction, it will just be live streaming of the conference.
