The previous mail had the wrong date in the title. We will meet this week, on Jan 21.

Best,
Arnold

Hi all,

This week (Wed Jan 21, at 12) we will meet for our theory seminar.
Location: Building 503 room 226.

Looking forward to seeing you all there,

Speaker:
  Uri Stemmer (TAU)
Title:  Differential privacy: Where we are, what's holding us back, and what's next
Abstract:
I will survey some of the existing gaps between the theory and practice of differential privacy and mention some of my attempts to tackle these challenges. In particular, I will present recent research aimed at formalizing the relaxed security goal of specifically preventing "reconstruction" attacks, rather than "all" attacks. I will discuss the benefits of this approach as well as the theoretical challenges involved in defining reconstruction rigorously. Based on two works (ITCS'25 + ITCS'26), joint with Edith Cohen, Haim Kaplan, Yishay Mansour, Shay Moran, Kobbi Nissim, and Eliad Tsfadia.
