Do Cosplay Contests do Advancing Regional Awards?

Do cosplay contests do advancing regional awards?

What I mean to ask is, do Cosplay contests have winners who advance to larger regional conventions like beauty contests?  Winners who win at conventions X, Y and Z are invited to compete against each other at a special contest at a Bigger-Convention?

SF conventions that I know are nowhere near that organized.

There are some corporate sponsored competitions like the World Cosplay Summit that do that. 

I am aware, however, of allegations of corporate interference in results at least once in past years.

I once refused to judge a competition with sponsored prizes because the sponsors imposed limits on what could be awarded (*not* what could be given their sponsored prize, what categories of award *could be recognized*). For example, even if there were 30 entries of Sailor Moon, there could not be a "best Sailor Moon" because that character was from a competing company's series.

And this is why there is a whole section on the question of prizes and sponsorship in the Competition Guidelines.

Thanks for the explanation.  

Interesting about the corporate aspect of cosplay.  I'm not likely to enter any of those, but its nice to know it's out there.
