Dear colleagues,

With the Open Science Retreat the ZBW brings together international Open Science supporters from different stakeholder groups. Again, we are planning two sessions where we will dive deeply into the topics that are of burning interest to us all.

We cordially invite you to join our fifth Open Science Retreat that will be held virtually on March 21, 2023 (13:00-15:00 CET) and March 22, 2023 (13:00-15:00 CET).

It is dedicated to the theme: Reform on Research Assessment in the context of Open Science

Activities to reform the way research is assessed have been launched in various settings in recent months and years. These include for instance initiatives such as the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA - a coalition of more than 400 organisations willing to work together to implement changes in research assessment), efforts to implement the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) in hiring and promotion practices or the Dutch National Recognition & Rewards Programme. Taking a positive view of these activities, we raise the question of what needs to be considered to make reform processes successful in terms of acceptance within the Open Science community. Furthermore, there seems to be a risk that Open Science and the research assessment reform could develop independently of each other - both in terms of reform activities and from a policy perspective. At the 5th Open Science Retreat, we want to focus explicitly on those aspects that promote a coordinated approach and on how an OS community position can be introduced into the discourse.

You are an Open Science advocate and would like to exchange your experiences and ideas with a group of 30 like-minded international Open Science enthusiasts from completely different domains?

Then apply now for free for this unique networking event here: openscienceretreat.zbw.eu

Deadline for application: March 3, 2023

The Open Science Retreat is an interactive event. Participants are expected to commit to active contribution during the entire retreat. The number of participants is limited (random selection, however, balanced with regard to geographical distribution and diversity aspects).

We are looking forward to an exciting retreat – be part of it!

Best,
Guido
