Matplotlib.pyplot display error with xming launched

I am simply trying to use matplotlib.pyplot to visulaize some data. I recently purchased a computer and have download anaconda to it. While importing the library and using the 

matplotlib.pyplot.plot()

function i get the following error.

qt qpa screen qxcbconnection: could not connect to display could not connect to any x display

I run a windows computer with a linux subsystem (WSL 1). I would wish to get it working again and not overlook it by using a different backend.
