I am trying to install Anaconda on my Macbook Air with El Capitan OS.

I downloaded both the *.pkg file (the gui installer) and the *.sh (the command line installer) but both seem to be failing.

With the .pkg file, the installer couldn't seem to get of the ground, but I did manage to extract some messages from the log:

Jul 23 16:06:55 Dans-MacBook-Air Installer[11901]: @(#)PROGRAM:Install  PROJECT:Install-1000
Jul 23 16:06:55 Dans-MacBook-Air Installer[11901]: @(#)PROGRAM:Installer  PROJECT:Installer-853

Jul 23 16:06:55 Dans-MacBook-Air Installer[11901]: Invalid Distribution File/Package

Here is some info on the file I downloaded:

Dans-MacBook-Air:/ dansHome$ ls -l Users/dansHome/Downloads/Ana*64.pkg

-rw-r--r--@ 1 dansHome  staff  267399001 Jul 23 15:48 Users/dansHome/Downloads/Anaconda3-4.1.1-MacOSX-x86_64.pkg

I tried to install with the command line installer, but here is how that went:

Dans-MacBook-Air:/ dansHome$ bash Users/dansHome/Downloads/Anaconda3-4.1.1-MacOSX-x86_64.sh

ERROR: size of Anaconda3-4.1.1-MacOSX-x86_64.sh should be 313217912 bytes

Dans-MacBook-Air:/ dansHome$ ls -l Users/dansHome/Downloads/Anaconda3-4.1.1-MacOSX-x86_64.sh

-rw-r--r--@ 1 dansHome  staff  44802305 Jul 23 16:08 Users/dansHome/Downloads/Anaconda3-4.1.1-MacOSX-x86_64.sh

I've tried downloading these files numerous times with similar results.

Any ideas as to what's going wrong?

Have you verified the MD5 hash of the installers you downloaded?
You can find them here: http://repo.continuum.io/archive/
And verify the MD5 sum using the md5 command, i.e.

In the case of the .sh (command line installer).  The problem is clearly
an incomplete download, because the file size should be around 300 MB, but your downloaded file is only about 44 MB.

Ilan,

Thanks for the quick reply!

You were right. I initially downloaded a corrupt file and all my attempts failed until I deleted that initial file. After that, the file was about 300MgB, the MD5 sum checked and the shell installation seems to work too.
