The Celebration of Protected and Conserved Areas of Latin America
🌿 The Celebration of Protected and Conserved Areas of Latin America and the Caribbean (APyC LAC) is a collective movement of conservation, culture and innovation, which makes visible and strengthens the daily work of those who sustain life in the territories and integrates the efforts of different levels and sectors: park rangers, communities, officials and territorial allies.
👉 The Celebration positions these territories, as effective tools for life and well-being, from the III Congress of Protected Areas of Latin America and the Caribbean - IIICAPLAC (Lima - Peru, 2019).
🌱 The initiative is led by a consolidated management team, endorsed by IUCN, WCPA IUCN and FAO. In addition, we have been an IUCN member organization since 2024 in partnership with the Argentine Native Forests Foundation.
✨ Since 2020, the www.celebracionareasprotegidas.org has mobilized an average of 8,600 people per year, highlighting more than 170 protected and conserved areas and recording its impact on the IUCN Nature Contributions Platform, where it verifies its contribution of 0.4% to the global reduction in CO₂ emissions.
How to Participate
CONNECT - Celebrate protected and conserved areas and their people across Latin America
On October 17th we celebrate the Day of Protected and Conserved Areas of Latin America and the Caribbean, and this year we will do so from ECOVIDA 2025 in Manizales, Colombia, together with our hosts, the National Natural Parks of Colombia, as part of their 65-year history.
🏔 SESSIONS - It will be a meeting that brings together knowledge and thematic sessions on ancestral knowledge, agroecology, communities and conservation.
🧘 IMPORTANCE - We will recognize the role of protected and conserved areas as territories of life and peace with nature.
📢 DIVERSITY - We will uplift the diverse voices of women, indigenous peoples, youth, park rangers and environmental educators.
