Are you a social scientist whose work relates to ecological forecasting? A high-level objective of the Ecological Forecasting Initiative (EFI) is to improve environmental decision-making, in part by increasing the number of social scientists actively engaged in the EFI community.
To help achieve this, the EFI Translation and Actionable Science Working Group is coordinating $1,000 awards to support five Project Groups. The awards are not restricted to the US or to specific career stages. Proposals are due December 15, 2025.
Ecological forecasting is the quantitative prediction of a future ecological state, and social science is an important component in ecological forecasting to increase the predictive power of models and ensure society benefits from better information.
Each Project Group will use the award to either
1) develop a proposal for an identified external funding opportunity or
2) convene a group to explore ideas and funding sources.
These activities should advance the use of social science in ecological forecasting and address ethical, methodological, or empirical gaps and advancements in the field of ecological forecasting.
Proposals are due December 15, 2025. Awards will be announced by January 15, 2026.
