Dear colleagues within SCB’s Religion and Conservation Biology Working Group,

I’m really glad to see that a series of Faith Events will be held at the COP15 over the next week – wonderful!

This prompts me to share with you about a special issue that I am now leading/editing on the roles of culture, worldviews, values and ethics for sustainable development. This has recently been launched in the journal Sustainability, with focus on the central roles of worldviews, values, etc. as “lenses” through which we see the world and make decisions, thus essential elements for successfully achieving Sustainable Development – inclusive of global conservation goals and of human rights.

The official announcement can be found on the journal’s website at https://www.mdpi.com/si/147722. Please also see the short contribution recently shared on IUCN CEESP News: https://www.iucn.org/story/202212/special-issue-roles-culture-and-values-sustainable-development-journal-sustainability – which gives a good overview and ‘feel’ for the special issue. I also attach here a visual abstract.

Additionally, if anyone has something that they would like to contribute to this special issue but feel that the ‘open access’ costs are prohibitive, please still be in touch – especially if coming from or working closely with Indigenous peoples or local communities – as several discounts have been secured from the publisher for special circumstances, for this very reason.

Best regards,

Marc
