Dear Counterfactual Community,
The SCB Impact Evaluation Working Group is submitting a proposal to the SCB Conservation Asia Congress Nepal 2026 for a symposium titled (provisionally) Evaluating the impacts of conservation on biodiversity and human wellbeing in Asia.
We are seeking presentations and case studies on (i) practical applications of impact evaluation methods (e.g., experiments, quasi-experiments, qualitative attribution studies) in Asian ecological/socio-cultural contexts; (ii) case studies that causally link biodiversity and/or ecosystem services and human wellbeing, from all contexts (although particularly Asia); and (iii) case studies of adaptive management based on causal evidence; and (iv) lessons learned from integrating impact evaluation methods into conservation practice and/or decision-making, covering both challenges and successes. Contributions may include applied research or perspective-oriented analyses. The goal is to foster critical dialogue on advancing impact evaluation for more effective conservation outcomes in Asia.
Talks will be 10 minutes long, followed by a 3-minute discussion. We will select 6 presentations for a 1.5-hour standard symposium. For more details, see: https://conbio.org/mini-sites/cac-nepal-2026/program/session-types/
If you're interested in presenting your work at the symposium, please send your title, abstract, and author list to malav...@gmail.com by 15th December. The IEWG Board will review the submissions and select talks that best fit the symposium's topic.
Thank you.
Kind regards
Malavika
