to Impact Evaluation Working Group
Hi everyone,

A reminder of the Impact Evaluation Working Group Events at ICCB 2025 this year so you can add them to your schedule:

1. Lunchtime Forum: Monday 16 June
Breaking New Ground in Conservation Science: Tackling Challenges and Building Principles for Effective Counterfactual Evaluation
Monday, June 16 |  13:00–14:00 | Mezzanine Level Meeting Room M3
  • Explore counterfactual approaches in small, topic-focused roundtables - from illegal wildlife trade, species conservation, business and biodiversity claims, forest conservation and restoration,  & marine resource management.
  • Register here (limited spots): https://forms.gle/3Cgksn7r2DTgxMo87

2. Social Event: Planned for Monday 16 June evening

Please join us at at 7pm on Monday 16th at the Southbank Beer Garden, a 15 minute walk from BCEC and a great spot!

Several of us plan to walk over together at 6:30 pm from the conference centre. We’ll be in the lobby from 6:20pm if you wish to join.

The IEWG will be covering food (pizzas, salads and shared platters, vegetarian and/or vegan options only) - drinks are self-pay, so just grab a drink and come chat with like-minded counterfactual enthusiasts over some pizza!

3. Extended Symposium: Wednesday, June 18
Future Directions for Counterfactual Evaluation of Conservation Interventions
Wednesday, June 18 | 8:30–10:30 | Great Hall 1
  • Join us for this symposium on advancing counterfactual methods - including matching, synthetic controls, and RCTs - to assess conservation’s environmental and social outcomes.
4.  IEWG Business MeetingThursday, 19 June
Thursday 19 June | 13:00 - 14:00 | Plaza Level Meeting Room P2
  • Come meet the IEWG Board, those interested in impact evaluation, and learn more about getting involved.

Do share this email with your networks that may be interested and attending ICCB 2025, and we look forward to potentially seeing some of you there.

Best,
Tanya
