Call for Nominations to Serve on the Board of the Society for Conservation Biology – Impact Evaluation Working Group
Nominations are due by 12 October 2025
The Society for Conservation Biology Impact Evaluation Working Group (IEWG) is pleased to announce a call for nominations for three positions on our Board: Community and Engagement Lead, Conference & Events Lead, and Secretary & Volunteer Engagement Lead (see details below). Successful candidates will serve a 3-year term starting Nov 2025.
The IEWG advances evidence-based biodiversity conservation efforts across the globe by supporting the adoption of counterfactual approaches to understanding the impacts of conservation.
The IEWG Board actively develops and coordinates activities and resources to best accomplish the
mission and vision of the IEWG. All Board members are expected to contribute actively towards all activities of the IEWG.
To find more information about IEWG, see
here.
We welcome self-nominations as well as nominations of other people; however, please only nominate individuals other than yourself with their permission.
The nominations committee will consider geographic, disciplinary, and professional diversity to develop a final ballot of up to eight candidates.
New IEWG Board members will be elected through a ballot of our members, which will run Oct 20 - Nov 2, 2025.
All board members must be in good standing with the Society for Conservation Biology (check your membership status on the SCB website). If you nominate someone other than yourself, please do so early enough that their acceptance can be requested before the deadline.
Details of Roles
Time commitments vary (approximately 4-12 hours per month). We ask potential candidates to think carefully about their ability to commit sufficient time to the IEWG Board prior to nomination.
The Community and Engagement Lead will strengthen connections with members, partners, and the broader conservation community to expand participation in IEWG activities.
Responsibilities include coordinating outreach efforts, supporting member engagement initiatives, and helping to grow the visibility and reach of the Working Group.
The Conference and Events Lead will coordinate IEWG’s presence at conferences and organise symposia, workshops, and other events that highlight impact evaluation in conservation.
Responsibilities include liaising with event participants and partners, managing event logistics, and ensuring IEWG activities at conferences run smoothly and effectively.
The Secretary & Volunteer Engagement Lead will support the smooth functioning of the Board by managing communications, maintaining records, and coordinating volunteer involvement.
Responsibilities include organising monthly board meetings, preparing meeting agendas and notes, and guiding volunteers to contribute effectively to IEWG activities.
All Board members are also expected to:
a. Attend and contribute to monthly virtual meetings,
b. Contribute time and effort towards at least two other activities/resources
We also encourage board members to attend in-person SCB-related congresses as circumstances allow and to serve as IEWG representatives on SCB committees, conferences, and/or other collaborative efforts.
Nominees should send their CV and statement of interest that details past involvement with SCB and the IEWG and their vision for IEWG (250-word limit) to teamcount...@gmail.com (IEWG Membership) by Oct 12th, 2025. Please indicate the time commitment you are willing to make to the specified roles and to other board-related tasks. Elections will begin shortly after the deadline.
Thank you for your consideration!
