Dear Counterfactual Community,

We’re excited to share a new resource now live on our website - an interactive method selection tool to help you choose among the many impact evaluation methods for your conservation projects!

This tool is an online adaptation of the decision framework presented in Selecting among counterfactual methods to evaluate conservation interventions (O'Garra, Martin, Pynegar, Polo-Urrea & Eklund, 2025) and has been brilliantly brought to life online by Annabel J. Y. Lim. A huge thank you to Annabel for her creativity, dedication, and the many volunteer hours she put into designing and coding this user-friendly resource!

The interactive tool:

  • Gives an overview of the range of counterfactual approaches to impact evaluation.
  • Explains the key assumptions behind each method.
  • Offers a practical decision framework to guide you in selecting the right approach for your specific context.

👉 You can find the tool on our webpage under:

Resources > Guidance >  Interactive methods selection

If you have comments, suggestions, or spot anything that needs tweaking, please email us at teamcount...@gmail.com (or just reply to this email). Your input will help us refine and improve this resource for the whole community.

Best wishes,

The Impact Evaluation Working Group team
