NEWSFLASH

Almost two months to go till Early Bird Registration closes!

The call for abstracts (parallel) sessions is now closed.

Registration Fee Waivers

ECCB ‘26 prides itself on creating an open and inclusive atmosphere. We are happy to announce a number of registration fee waivers. These waivers are intended to support early-career conservation researchers and practitioners from underrepresented or less privileged backgrounds who face financial or structural barriers to attending the conference. Support is provided through a registration fee waiver, so no upfront payment of the conference registration fee is required.

Partner Spotlight: CO2 compensation used for planting hedges at the Hortus Botanicus (Leiden)

One of the priorities of ECCB ’26 is to ensure the conference maintains a low environmental footprint and to advance legacy projects that contribute to the community. We invite all participants to join us in achieving this goal.

As part of these efforts, the donation will help plant 100m of hedges in the Hortus Botanicus, located in the city center of Leiden, to show the 270.000 visitors per year how urban greening can help restore and reconnect biodiversity. The aim is to monitor and improve the abundance of insects, small mammals, and birds living in these hedges, and to track species interactions and changes in community composition over time.

Cost-effective camera traps and acoustic recorders will be used to capture data, which will be analyzed during MSc courses (Computer Science programme and Biology programme), using scripts for automatic species detection and quantification to evaluate different management practices.

All ECCB participants can add a set contribution fee of 15 euros during registration to compensate for their CO2 impact and contribute to the Hortus initiative.

Join our social excursion: Exploring New Land: Markerwadden and Oostvaarderplassen

We will visit the Oostvaardersplassen and Marker Wadden Archipelago on Monday, July 6th. The grassland part of Oostvaardersplassen is well known for its large herbivores, Heck cattle, Konik horses, and red deer, which we may see from a lookout post. From Lelystad, we take the boat to Marker Wadden (lunch will be provided on the boat), an engineered archipelago designed as a bird paradise in Lake Markermeer, where we can visit the main island. At both excursion sites, we will discuss the roles of engineering and rewilding, water-level dynamics, grazers, and the restoration and conservation of wetland birds.
