Dear colleagues,
As the socio-political landscape in the U.S. continues to rapidly evolve, many conservation social scientists across academic, industry, and government sectors are struggling to navigate this sea of change, particularly in the state of Florida. This is why we are announcing a new symposium dedicated to researchers working in the human dimensions of natural resources in Florida!
People and Nature: A Symposium on Conservation Social Science will take place in Gainesville, Florida, February 10-11, 2026. Organized by social scientists from the University of Florida (UF/IFAS), Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Tampa Bay Estuary Program (TBEP), and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this symposium will bring together researchers across the state to showcase social science work happening in our region, build new connections and partnerships, and maybe even have a little fun in these challenging times.
Abstract submissions are now open for those wishing to give short talks during the symposium, and will close after September 30th. General registration will open on October 20th. Please feel free to spread the word to colleagues who may be interested in attending. For more information, visit the People and Nature Symposium webpage.
In solidarity,
Blake
